One thing is certain, Lee has captured in paint the essence of life in this part of HK. As to whether you like this style of painting is an individual thing entirely. I don't personally because it doesn't excite me, but I can appreciate his skills and dedication for the time and work involved in producing just one of these images. It will I'm sure, be an accurate representation of life down to the smallest detail. It is always good to see new artists' posting on the gallery, we have a vast and varied collection of styles from around the globe on display and added to daily, something to suit everyone's taste I expect.
I'm with Alan here. They are an absolute triumph of technique and do nothing at all for me. Capturing the spirit? I'm sure they do, but so did the photograph and I'm one of those that struggles with the point of painting a photograph. If this thing called art is about interpreting the visual world and how an artist 'sees' the world then photo-realism suggests the artist sees the world as a camera does. That's not how I experience the world at all.

I know I still have a lot to learn from the art masters , please give me some time and encouragements , thx jackson Lee Kwong Tim from Hongkong
From Jackson Lee Kwong Tim all reference photos I took by myself , and i have made new composition on the layout, my favorite style is photo realism, there is no digital picture with transparent paint combination, all hand painted original , thx
Lee is calling his work 'photorealism', like a few others that have commented, I consider it to be more like an accurate and detailed representation painted from a photograph rather than photographic itself. (if that makes any sense!). There is an artist who has recently begun posting her ballet pics on the gallery, Michele Ashby - that's what I class as photorealism! They could be photo's, I can't tell the difference.

Welcome to the forum, Jackson Lee Kwong Tim.Thank you for all the extra information. Your career is impressive and you certainly know how to promote your art. Perhaps we all have something to learn from you.
I have to disagree regarding the ballet pictures. They may have perfect proportions but there is something more artistic to them than photo's, I gather from the size of the signature they are quite big (meaning that as they appear on screen they seem quite perfect) but even so there are visible pencil/pastel strokes within them and she accentuates the light and hence to me they look nowhere near as photographic as the Hong Kong stuff which illustrates everything without much artistry in my opinion, and very little use of light and shadow or hard and soft lines. To me the Hong Kong work is a perfect demonstration of patience and mastery over paint but lacks the soul that these ballet pictures have because even though she has equally paid attention to getting the form right her work is artistic, better composed and not just illustrative in my opinion. This may just sound like a 20 stone guy on his couch screaming at a footballer that he is not doing it right... but despite my inability to produce anything as remotely skillful as these artists we all know what we look for in art and I think comparisons (to other artwork rather than our own ability) can show the strengths and weaknesses even in technically proficient work... ultimately there are many different criteria to judge art on and as an artist technical may become more important to us (the same can be said as a musician) at the risk of overshadowing other equally important aspects.
