Bit like me Sylvia or is that dusty and hollow . I have spent quite a few hours looking at photos and paintings of Thames hay barges , or floating haystacks as I want to do a painting with several on the Thames in London.
There are few photo as as you would expect and quite a few paintings, some obviously suffering from artist licence , I would think they are quite unstable but some of the images would not make a couple of yards before floundering.
The trick was to have a double cargo , bricks from Kent overloaded with straw fro Suffolk both badly needed in London, some still worked until the late 1940/50 s . My first attempt a study really .

Rough sketch for a watercolour painting, imaginary scene but I used photos to get the period buildings then adapted them to fit my imaginary dock land. Whilst posting I have noted a couple of thing I want to change , the church tower is to high and thin , this will also bring the steeple into the scene more .
