Lovely charcoal portraits and I like your sketch Tessa and also Hilary. I love trying out charcoal and pastels but they are so messy....or is it just me?!
I think charcoal is very messy Diane, I like using it though. I've never tried pastels. The charcoal seams to get from my hands to various parts of my face.
Good work Dixie, and good luck with the gloves. I expect they’ll take a little getting used to, but definitely worth it if they do the trick.
Wow some super sketches everyone! Just done a quick doodle of an old shack. Not feeling too inspired at the moment but must push myself! Hope the support gloves help Paul!

Some super sketches from everyone and I like your rundown shack Gillian. I've got a painting in my head to do but I don't know how to transfer the idea into a painting. So I'll be trying out lots of sketches to see if I can get the effect I'm looking for, so it will probably pop up on here. Good luck with the glove Paul. The research is positive regarding their benefits.
Nice one, Gillian. Looks like the move wasn't too hectic. Dixie, I am sure once you get used to the gloves they will prove their worth. Still pumping out great sketches. I'm staying on the charcoal portrait sketches for the moment, getting my hand in again.
Great portrait Ron, I can only hope to learn enough to reach this standard one day. Great work.
Inspired by all of you I have had a go at a first time self portrait.  I used sanguine conte pencil for this as its perfect for wrinkles :)
This looks great Hilary, well done. I think it's a good first attempt, much better than my attempt.
Two great portraits Ron and Hillary
Thanks Denise & Alan.  I think its really difficult especially looking in the mirror as you tend to place features a bit skewed.  I’m not unhappy with this first effort but clearly there’s a lot to be improved upon. Practice, practice, practice!!
My sketch today but I will also be sticking with practicing the portraits for the next few months.
