I really want to just go and start painting but it’ll take me a while to clear up what’s lying around. Why am I so untidy? I do try, it works for a day or two …I tell myself “ If I had a large studio it would be different”, probably not but it’s difficult to access things when space is limited. Oh, stop moaning!! Just go and make a start….ok.
Some messiness is allowed Marjorie. I have a small are in my bedroom where I pain warm I’m not out in the shed ( summer only) it was always cluttered. I bought my self a new easel with draws under it  see photo, it is designed for outdoor and travel etc but fits and does the job. As it was nearly empty I asked my son for some artist quality paint , very kindly he bought me 36 tubes all excellent colours that I will use as well. In the last month of using it my painting area keeps much tidier, and I have developed the habit of putting the tubes back as I finish squeezing out what I need . I do miss the mess a bit though, not really.7

That is useful piece of kit Paul!
Oh Paul, that looks pristine. The problem with me is that I never throw anything out! If I counted all the brushes I have - although I clean them each time, some go stiff. Brush restorer near an open window at the moment! I've spent a couple of hours cleaning up my tubes( oils)after the oil has leaked out and gone sticky or hard. Maybe after that I might get down to painting something😉
Marjorie, I’m ashamed to say my workspace is permanently very messy!  I have a spare room in which to work so don’t have to clear stuff away - and despite my paintings being very neat, I’ve become used to working in a cluttered mess and it no longer bothers me.  I do occasionally have a tidy up when I can’t find something, but it doesn’t last long!  (Paul, you look very well organised.)
Jenny, you’ve cheered me up! Just had a cuppa, now will finish off de- gunging(?) the tubes. All the other brushes are soaking then will get the flea comb out and scrape through to get out any hardened paint. The joys eh? Sorry it’s sideways, forgot to edit.

I started off with a watercolour pad a year ago. I've now taken over the living room, dining room, spare bedroom, conservatory and I'm still trying to get organised. I did get a big stacking tool box from tool station and that's got all my acrylic stuff in. It's great and has wheels so easy to move about. I could do with a spare house, if only. I can't believe all the stuff I have and I use it all.
We live in a bungalow, so are limited for space. However, I’ve taken over the garage, the conservatory, the dining room, the dining room cupboards are full of stacking boxes….big ones. There’s large paintings stacked against the dining room and conservatory walls. I purchased acrylic paper to cut to size, as I thought this would take up less room…WRONG, I’ve now added three art folders, all full, so I’ll have to purchase another couple. But I do clear up and shoehorn everything away after each painting session, which is a pain, all that taking out and putting away takes more time sometimes than actually painting. Like Denise, I need a spare house!
I had a session cleaning oil tubes last week Marjorie, the lids fit much better now! I do dig my painting room out at least once a year, whether it needs it or not. At the moment it’s not bad, only because I couldn’t quite get a crop of tatties planted in the ever thickening layer of dust that is covering everything at the moment. I have plenty of storage space but I don’t hoard stuff I’m not going to use, in fact I don’t buy what I don’t want or need. There is a overhead cupboard above the left hand sink drainer, three cupboards underneath the sink. My easel is behind where I’m stood taking the photo. The table with the printing press on has a top that swivels and folds open to twice the size if I need that for space. There is also another set of cupboards with a long work top to the left that I also use. Anything larger, I use the floor! I’m very fortunate to have a good space.
You have succeeded in making me very jealous Fiona ,with all that space to work in . Ah well back to my corner, probably the best place for me , in the corner out of the way. I do have storage space under the bed for my paper etc and the use of my shed in decent weather also for  the storage of  bulky items ,easel’s, old paintings etc.  Must admit to have recently developed the habit of tidying up ASAP, must be my age  I think or the ear bending ( most likely). My eldest daughter said the  other day that my shed and painting area was very tidy, and asked if I was unwell or was something wrong , well more than usual .
My garden studio ( shed) is insulated and heated, it just fits a very comfortable swivel chair everything has a place but they are not always in it ..
Sorry Paul! When I first started painting in watercolour it was on my knee and the coffee table, then progressed to the kitchen table, spare bedroom etc in subsequent houses that I’ve moved to. This is the roomiest place I’ve had, so I make the most of it. I paint outside as well. I’ve been wondering if I could squeeze a pottery kiln in somewhere!
