As a rather proud Mum, I have just shared a little article by my daughter about the five metre-long artwork she is creating during lockdown. Take a look on the tips and techniques

Interesting to see what everyone’s keeping busy with during lockdown. Without all the usual club exhibitions to work towards this year I’ve decided to focus on my linocutting - hadn’t done any for a while and was disappointed with the first couple of attempts, but have kept going and am now finding it quite addictive! I’ve found inspiration on my daily walks by the River Mole which is within walking distance of home and have done a little series of ‘river by moonlight’ designs. This is the one I’ve just finished.

Thanks very much Paul, Robert and Tessa for your encouraging comments. Although I love colour, there’s something very appealing about a simple black and white printed image - and Robert, you’re so right that it makes you focus on essentials, it’s actually quite difficult trying to get the composition right without being able to rely on colour and tonal values.

This seems the place for this...Lockdown Notes...the April bit was long forgotten.
Maybe time for a 'what do we think of it so far...??' I've got to admit this lockdown business has affected me, no real reason why it should. We weren't exactly bundles of energy before, we're old, and my wife is very ill...but we did get out when she had a better day, and obviously the real social interaction with family and friends was there. I suppose it's foolish to expect the current situation to have no effect. I got most of my ideas from my social interaction. I'd see or hear something that prompted a drawing. There's less of that. We don't go out at all, because I'd hate for my wife to catch the virus (wouldn't do me much good either, because I couldn't self-isolate with my wife at home...she'd have to go into care.)
I guess all these things churning around in my mind tend to put the mockers on things.
I'm still thankful I have art to fall back on, but don't seem to be doing much, and not very happy with what I do. Here's a thing....I started this drawing a couple of days ago...drew the mournful face...thought that's enough of that...and went and did something else. Probably sat and dozed if truth be told.
I will go back to it...but it just typifies what's happening at the mo.
Now all this is very small beans compared to what's happening. And it's not important. Maybe talking about the effects of lockdown help. (??) Anyway, enough of that...now I've put the dreaded lurgi on you, I can wander off whistling 'Oh what a beautiful morning.'

Oh dear Lew, I think it gets to all of us sooner or later but at least hubby and I got out to see my daughter for the first time since lockdown last week when the weather was nice, it felt so strange. You however will have to take things extra careful with your wife being so vulnerable. I can't see things improving much at the moment with the way things are, seems unfair when we oldies have stuck by the rules and others seem to do what they want. Keep on sketching and hope things get better for you and your wife soon.

I think you are right Lew that the current situation get to us all in some way , unfortunately it affects some like your self and your wife more as you are more isolated. We do get out to shop now and it a relief to be out. I went through a patch a week or two ago where I was not able to finish anything I started, I seem to ha e moved on from that now. It’s surprising how we get our stimulation and encouragement to paint or draw, it sometimes comment, picture, or just a memory that set us off, unfortunately that lessens with isolation. I think you are right in saying that sometimes too chat helps e en sharing how you feel. Please do use the message link if you would like too, I would be more than happy to have contact with you, and I may even learn a thing or two along the way. Keep well and safe , you are an important part of our community, as are all our site members.

Lew I know how you feel. I’m not painting at the moment, can’t get any inspiration and feel I’ve done enough of my morning walk’ sketches for the moment! I’d like to be doing figures but there aren’t many around here unless I go to the village which will be rammed with tourists. We had an awful day yesterday, cold, windy and wet, Could have climbed the wall, but today Is better weather wise and generally.
Someone from our art group suggested that six of us meet in her garden next Thursday suitably distanced, for sketching and obviously chatting, so very much looking forward to that, and hopefully it will get me back in art mode.
We are able to see our one daughter who live about 18 miles away, When the weather allows and we sit in the garden.
My other daughter who is now 34 weeks pregnant and lives in London, we haven’t seen since before lockdown and I am busting a gut to go see her, but must wait.
So we go on! At least we’ve all got through so far and things do seem to be improving.
Hang in there folks and keep up the communication!

Yes, it certainly affects us all in some way. I can't see any major changes for us yet...not until when, or if, they develop a vaccine. Thanks for your offer Dixie, but I'm alright. Just browned off like everyone else. The situation seems like an opportunity to do more art than usual, and I'm not taking advantage of it, in fact, I don't think I'm doing as much as normal. Sounds like I'm not alone.
