Here's another 'no go' pic... ...I'd intended to do a singer surrounded by musicians, but didn't like the singer.  So I attempted to save it by sploshing colour all around her.  Still don't like it.  I should have just started again. Sorry to inflict all this 'poor me' stuff on you, but it's said that talking about things helps.  That's what this is.  And now I  ought to be getting on with something.

Nice. Love, absolutely, how you have done the hair. Err, stronger colour would fit… even too strong on purpose, you know, not trying to be lifelike but individual.  Talking point

I was interested in how you saw your cartoons at the museum, Lew and sorry things have been so hard for you. I think that artists do see the world in a different way, picking up on detail that others ignore. Often when I am watching TV I'm not really concentrating on the plot, just thinking about how I would paint the scene - or am I just weird? My point is that we are still doing art even when we are not holding a brush and sometimes that's all you need.
Yes Martin, the hair colour is a bit tame for a singer.  This is pen and watercolour so it’s just plain a no goer.  Might try again and go a bit wilder. Yes Lynda, I’m  certain we do look at things differently.  Sometimes it’s even without thinking, and something gets tucked away in the old brain box.
Well thank you Ian.  This was originally going to be in landscape format with jazzy musicians around the singer.  I wanted to get the girl right first.  It’s a reasonably detailed pen drawing with watercolour wash over it.  I chose the wrong colour for the hair, it looks a bit drab.  Having done it, I thought it needed to be more colourful and zappy.  I didn’t carry on with it because I knew it would bug me.  So I cropped it and added a coloured background.  Still didn’t like it.  It’s OK-ish.  Easy to correct in oils, not so in pen and watercolour.  This happens.  I find best to start again.  I’ll try again and do a quick colour sketch first.
Lewis, it is actually good that you are not 100% satisfied with your work, in my experience nobody is. This is what keeps you continuing on with it and trying harder, always seeking to improve. All part of the journey. In any case, I quite enjoyed the paintings you posted, they show a personal style and are quite fun.
I agree David, I said pretty much the same thing in this thread.  I’ve been doing this art malarkey since I was about ten, so that means I’ve been at it for 75 years and still trying to get it right. With any luck, on the day I kick the bucket, I’ll still be drawing and my last words will probably be, ‘Oh no, I’ve made a hash of that.’  (Although, maybe a bit more Anglo-Saxon.)

As long as you've got your sense of humour Lew than all is well!
