If you watch this, John O’Neill in our Gallery is on tonight. I’ll certainly be watching.
Yes I did watch and did know he was on. This years venues have been particularly challenging, not to mention the weather! I did like the work of the lady who won last night, also the pencil lady who was one of the last three. Well done John, tough gig!
I also watched last night, and agree with Tessa’s comments.  Not many of the venues chosen, though, are really landscapes, which seems a bit at odds with the title of the series.  Apparently the final is at Portmeirion, so shall look forward to that!

Once more, I didn’t agree with the judges’ decision - two points….I think you have to be brave and tackle the obvious ( in this case the rollercoaster) and some did. Secondly, the idea of the industrial side by side with nature is hardly new, though it was a beautiful painting. One more thing - who am I to criticise? It must be so hard to put yourself out there and do that.
I agree Jenny, Portmeirion should be good, certainly colourful! I wonder if this years idea is partly to make them tackle movement, as with the horse racing, and rollercoaster? Incidentally you wouldn’t see me anywhere near that rollercoaster - looked horrendous! Marjorie I remember reading an account of the long day involved in taking part, (possibly in the Artist?) and as they have to turn up early in the morning, many would have to stay overnight, so it becomes a lot longer than the four hours we see.
I can't watch it - they always choose the wrong picture and I end up screaming at the TV!
If I hadn’t lost my voice I would have been screaming At the T.V too.
I've arrived at the conclusion rightly or wrongly that they have a tick box for the semi-final line up. Oils, tick, Watercolour, tick, mixed media, tick, pencil, tick, male female balance, tick etc etc. And they bear this in mind when judging the heats.

Norette, you cynic!🤭
There's what looks like a good critique of the show on the Making a Mark blog, by Kathleen Tyrell (sp?).  I say "looks like", because after previous experience of most of these types of show, I wouldn't watch any of them again.  One of the judges on this series is Tai-Shan Schierenberg, the other two are art "experts" who have either never wielded a brush in anger, or tried, and couldn't.  If you're going to have non-painters judging, then at least pull them off the street rather than resort to the foetid wallow of the professional art market.
I stopped watching this programme some time ago. I find the whole format totally irritating with inane pointless commentary by a team of virtually non-painters, as Robert has pointed out! The exception being Tai who is a damn good painter and talks sense!
Refuse to pay for a license sick of the general crap . But might try and watch the one at Portmerion on catch up ,simply because it's part of my old stamping ground and have painted there .
