Interesting. I’d never seen this one before, the first one he painted. Look at his self-portraits in chronological order….this first one is quite powerful, interesting how his portrayals changed.
Pale faces are more apparent in those days, I’d say… everyone was ill perhaps?  .    .

Could be - it could also be that red lakes applied as glazes have faded over time.  I suspect though that it might be several things - the fading of glazes, plus the fact that ladies of quality (which is not a phrase with which I could necessarily identify) would have protected their delicate complexions with copious make-up, and shielding their skin from the sun's cruel rays. I know that I am always MOST careful about this - the sun can be SO ageing......  Cough and blush.
Ha… Zorn palette
Clifton Wheeler
I like that palette
I just love the flesh tones
Astonishingly beautiful!
Russell, that painting is perfection, children's skin and features  are SO difficult.
The hair is excellently done. Face is drop dead brlliant too
Russell, that’s really beautiful.  Do you know who the artist is?  It’s hard to tell from the signature.
No Jenny sadly I don't. I've tried to decipher the signature but to no avail.
