I have noticed that many of the regular contributors to this forum hardly ever comment on paintings in the gallery, though I do see the occasional one. Is it due to the fact that you don't like many paintings or perhaps you don't have time. Just a thought🙂

Dont have the time usually . I read fiction a lot and there are things like painting and reading the LP magazine from cover to cover and theres the garden and my fish pond. the dishes erc. etc.......Syd

I used to put more comments in the gallery, but I currently have problems with my lap-top battery, which keeps running out too quickly, So I am limiting my time on-line currently
With Sarah, Phil, Ellen, Rose the dentist, and the granddaughter whose name I forget.

I comment on quite a few - trouble is the rate of churn.... and only so many hours in the day. If I really don't like a painting I don't comment on it - but I also don't comment on a lot I do like, so don't read anything into that! Sometimes, as well, I don't know what to say, of course - you can say 'that's good' in a hundred ways, but if that's all you're saying it can get a touch tedious. What I have noticed is that some of the regulars here aren't posting much actual work on the gallery, and that includes me; I've been working on a commission which I found both difficult and unrewarding and don't want to show anyone else because I'd rather forget about it! When I've got the thing out of the way, I should be able to post a few things I'd be happy to show.... but that's my current excuse.

Much of the work in the gallery is of exceptional quality and there are many beginners who show great promise and deserve encouragement. And here comes the but: despite all this I find so much of the work to be predictable both collectively and individually. I rarely visit the gallery these days and prompted by this discussion I just had my first peek for many weeks. It was like looking back in time. I just want something to jump out of the screen at me and I am not talking about skill levels here but originality. Perhaps something with the wow factor (hate that expression but can't think of a better word at this time of night). I look into the forum quite regularly and enjoy the comments and the banter between old friends and long may it continue but the gallery does leave me a tad flat - perhaps that's why I rarely post much these days. And perhaps I could aim some of these comments at my own work but at least I do try out different styles and methods - I'm currently working on a series of one off prints made without plates or presses which I am enjoying immensely. I've also been doing a few demos lately on painting without a brush which have gone down well but nothing like this in the gallery. Okay now you can all shoot me down - I'm wearing a helmet but it's very thin so do be gentle.

I do look at the gallery on a regular basis, I will comment on the paintings I like or have something special about them. but it is very difficult to keep up with them all I thank everybody that place comments on my work Tao

Ah thanks Sylvia - now I have a use for the helmet. Also There's a hole in my sock and my big toe is emerging - should get some great textures with that - will call the painting 'Emerging Toe' now that'll be something different. Actually Sylvia your G daughters tutor wasn't that original. Back in the 70's when studying for my MBA I had a tutor in psychology who delivered his first lecture standing on a desk. He told us we would never forget him - and I never did!!

As Michael has said, predictable in the main, however, this will always be the case as many artists tend to stick to their usual format, a format that they are comfortable with. I don't fit into that category, much preferring to work on different subjects and alternate between styles. This may be detrimental to my progress but it's how I've always worked, switching between medium and experimenting to some degree. But, I do comment although not on that many these days, just those few that look interesting.

Well I got you all talking anyway! I for one can't wait to see Michael's 'Emerging Toe'. I always comment on work I admire and like Sylvia, look for paintings from my virtual friends and always give thanks to those kind enough to comment on my work. Very many don't say thanks at all and that is so sad. I'm just hoping that you good people will let us see some of your work soon!!😆
