I've broken a bone in my foot...... It happened on Friday afternoon, I went over on my ankle. I didn't do anything about it immediately because although it hurt, I could still walk, albeit with a limp. So I just thought it was bruised. I did all the right things, ice compression and pain killers. Saturday morning.......my foot was black and I couldn't put weight on it. Off to A&E, X-ray, fractured right metatarsal! I'm now strapped up with a black boot that looks like a storm trouper from Star Wars.....plenty of time on my hands now to put paint to paper! Ellen
Bad luck but a silver lining if it gives you more time to paint. hope its not too painful.
Distressingly easy to damage ourselves - you and A G Holder are both arty hobblers now. Bad luck comes in threes, they say - looks around nervously to see who's next and hopes it isn't him....
Oh Ellen, what a thing to happen! As you say you can now paint as often as you want so we are expecting lots of great work from you!!;) Definitely no housework though!
Ellen I am so sorry to hear this and send my best wishes for as non-painful recovery as possible. Take all the extra help you can get, and enjoy some extra painting time. All the best.
Yes Ellen, take it easy and try and drum up some inspiration, don't sit around watching daytime TV, it's a waste of life, I'm sure you won't. Is there anyone out there who hasn't broken a bone in their leg or foot?, I had a bad break playing golf of all things a few years back now, I always get laughed at when I tell people. Syd, that is so bad and I wish you a speedy recovery along I'm sure with everyone else. Try substituting the pain killers for a wee dram, so much nicer and more effective.
The POL autopsy page ....... make sure you get physio, Ellen: I did when I broke my wrist, and have a full range of movement now; when I broke my back years ago, though, the only treatment was bed rest and a bit of physio: but next to no follow up, and I've had trouble with the back ever since. Hope the rest of you are all knitting together satisfactorily too.
Happy Birthday Ellen! I broke a bone in my foot a couple of years ago, I didn't know it at the time. I went to my GP three times before he would send me for an x-ray. The radiographer told me it had been broken but was now on the mend, she told me if I had come sooner I too would have had one of those big boots! I should have gone to A&E but didn't think it was bad enough. Oh Syd, so sorry to hear you have been 'under the knife' and I hope everything heals up quickly. I thought you had been quiet over the last few weeks, understandable under the circumstances. Get well soon.
Good news Ellen, so pleased for you.
Great news Ellen, don't do too much though, make sure you rest it well.
Only just caught up with this - here's my very best wishes to you Syd and hope you make a full recovery soon - see you at the Louvre - there's a tousled headed lass waiting :)
Tough luck Ellen. I've a tale of woe to tell too. Went to see our son in California a few years back and he persuaded me to go out in a boat with him. I was a bit wary as I have a dodgy knee ( a lifetime football cartlige injury) and I was also 69 at the time. The surf over there isn't mill-pond at best and coming back in,a very large wave got under us and threw me backwards. I was kneeling up to padddle at the time and got thrown back on my knee which cracked. Had to get the life guard to get me off the beach in a Range Rover and, as we were going home on the following day I declined to go to hospital (we had insurance, but did I need that sort of aggro, no thanks) My knee came up like a football and the pain from cabin pressure during a 14 hour flight was beyond description. Within half an hour of getting home I was in our local A&E (which luckily is very near ) and I spent two months off work in a leg brace. Not fun, so you have my very deepest sympathy. A 69 year old taking on California surf is just about as daft as it gets. Get well soon. 😉
