I agree about the art group nudge effect, Peter.  I'm trying to switch to acrylic for art group paintings, so that at least I can finish them. Then back to oil for work at home. Although I'm not sure switching regularly is a good idea.
It does me good to belong to two art groups because I often get nudged politely into painting things I would never normally consider. I may not enjoy it as much but it's made me a better artist and I console myself with the thought that I can do another train next!

I agree. The subjects we paint at my weekly group are very varied from portraits, landscapes and seascapes to still life   I find many of them very challenging and initially uninspiring. Despite this, each exercise is great practice for drawing sills and tonal identification.
Stick with the acrylics Norrette, the picture will be dry when you put it in the car to drive home!
Norrette, I use CarriArt work shield boxes, they are lightweight and great for oil painting transportation.  I use mine all the time backwards and forwards to art classes etc and I only use oils.
Heather, can you pop a photo on. The reason I ask is because In May our sketching club is running landscape painting plein air with oils for those interested. I've put my name down for it. I'm looking for somthing lightweight to paint on and carry my stuff in. Is this the kind of thing that might be suitable. Thanks.
Hi folks, thanks for ideas. Fortunately, or unfortunately whichever way you look at it, my art group location is a 5 minute walk away. I couldn't bring myself to drive there especially as I can see it from my home  😄. But I do have a vertical carrier for larger pictures, and a cardboard box held horizontally for smaller ones. The rest of my stuff is in an old fashioned shopping trolley. Neighbours think I'm batty...I don't care. 😂 I suppose I like to paint in layers, so it's at least a week between them, meantime art group may have moved onto a different subject. It's the number of unfinished items that's the problem. If I try to keep to just one oil on the go at home, and use the acrylics as practice, it may be the answer.
here's the website Denise :- CarriArt WorkShield - CarriArt
Thanks Heather.
