It's just a thought and perhaps worth thinking about that it's quite easy to put a watermark on photos to act as a caution to anyone who might decide to copy any paintings. There are free apps that simplify the process if you are using an iPhone/Android.
It's annoying to have to consider these things but that's the way it is. I agree that was an odd request you had, Alan and would certainly ring alarm bells. I hope this issue is sorted out.

I’ve heard back from Warners. Without getting too deep into the details, we’re going to let things stand as they are at present, and monitor any future developments from our friend Luis…
So, he’s had a reprieve for now at least, but I have posted a piece of artwork earlier, and so far, no request from him to buy the right to use my work.
Hopefully he’s got the message, I did make it pretty clear to him in my response that this won’t be tolerated!

Do a reverse image search of your own work. Make sure it is not appearing somewhere unexpected. I have proof that a watermark won't stop the thieving barstools. Unfortunately there are print on demand services that don't give a damn about copyright. The artwork that tends to appeal is mainly illustrative, ie. things that look good on a mug. It's horrible.

I think it's possible to remove watermarks - I don't know how, but am sure those determined to steal them do. I haven't bothered to watermark anything of mine - probably would, if something I'd done were misappropriated, but fingers crossed so far. It's an uncomfortable feeling, though, that this brave new world we're in is making us suspicious of just about everything that anyone else may say or do.
I'm going to bed with a good book! If Wodehouse can't help us, I don't know what can....

It is possible using Adobe Photoshop, which is the industry standard software, worldwide that is.
It isn’t just a photo manipulation tool for removing warts from models faces, posing for the cover of Vogue. It’s a very comprehensive programme, and something that I’ve been trained to use, it’s the graphic designers dream programme!
It isn’t simply a matter of a few clicks of the mouse, it takes a degree of skill and is time consuming, depending of course on the complexity of the watermark…
Five-year-old’s can’t use it and remove them in a few minutes, which I’ve read on this website numerous times (by people who know nothing presumably).
You can’t replace what was originally under the watermark, you have to create the removed area by cloning in new material using your experience… it takes time!
I’ll continue as I have been doing, watermarks can be obtrusive and detract from the artwork!
If I find myself drinking my morning coffee from a mug with my image. ‘Sandon Church towards the Blackhills’, I’ll know my copyright has been breached…
