"Of course, the Warner magazine group uses its own site for its own advertising, which Adblock won't block..."
Robert, you might be able to answer a general query - I have AdBlock and recently even paid them something. One of our local news sites (some content still not hidden behind a paywall) has recently sprouted ads all round the sides of the screen as well as embedded in the content (the latter has always been the case but not the other ads). I just assumed AdBlock wasn't doing its job properly but is this the specific website not allowing ad blocking? I hope you don't mind my asking as my question is not about the POL site, but I am unaware whether specific publishers can circumvent AdBlock? The internal workings of some of these things are a mystery to me!

Well, I don't know the answer to that, but I'm sure web developers are constantly trying to circumvent Adblock. Many will shrug their shoulders and accept that adverts must be accepted: I have to be honest here (imagine how this pains me) and say that I don't have Adblock on my own blog page, though fat lot of difference that seems to make, since few people visit it anyway (advertisers: I'm lying! No, really, thousands visit my blog, really they do....)
I adverts keep obscuring my view of any website, though - I stop following it. If I can't block adverts, I log out and never log back in again. This saves me a great deal of time, which I can better spend reading books - I'm still fighting my way through War and Peace and, struggle though it be, I think it's a more worthwhile effort than wrestling with websites which just wish to monetize themselves.

At the risk of throwing my toys out of the pram, I am seriously considering cancelling my Studio+ subscription because of this issue. The pop-ups just get closed by me , again and again and again and I will never click on anything they advertise. In fact I'd probably actively boycott the advertisers.
I'm sure the loss of my £4.50 a month will have Warner's quaking in their boots but why pay a subscription when you are bombarded with unwanted advertising. If I go back to a free membership I'm not really losing much apart from the ability to offer my paintings for sale.

I’m on Mac, namely my iMac, MacBook Air and more often my iPhone - no issues whatsoever with pop ups!
Occasionally, but not always, a few ads appear at the very bottom of my screen but not invasive in any way!
Andrew… I understand what you’re saying, but there are many other benefits with being a member of Studio+, I find it quite useful although I don’t use all of these facilities.
Dawn is looking into this issue, I’m confident that it will be resolved soon! Ever the optimist!

Okay , okay, probably an over reaction on my part, but I find them really intrusive. It's like 'whack-a-mole' - I keep closing them and they keep popping back. I just fear that one day the actual content of the site will form a postcard sized window in the middle of the screen and the rest will be just click-bait adverts.
