<div>Regarding Marion Dutton....I occasionally comment on her work because it is very good and can act as a stimulus to less proficient artists (myself included) The advertising aspect I ignore, just thoroughly enjoy seeing her work. Dare I say "Live and let live?!!" </div>
You do have a very valid point Ruth and it does make me seem as if I am being petty. I just don't want timid artists being put off of coming on to the gallery because it has become a professional advertising site. I have already noticed another couple of newish artists advertising. Anyhow only my opinion!
I would have thought the 'gallery' is there to promote your work to your peers really. To obtain feedback not to sell to other artists?! What's the point of that....
The Gallery should not be used as a zero-cost advertising hoarding and ads there should be deleted by the management without exception. If not, the gallery runs the risk of ending up like Fartbook and Twitter. I'm sure there are plenty of paid advertising options here. Maybe the Gallery should be actively moderated; your art and its supporting text all needing approval before becoming visible on the Gallery pages. I'd be happy with that. Biogs in the third person should be banned; you don't hear Therese May referring to herself as "The Prime Minister", or the Queen talking about "Her Majesty". Some people are just a long way up their own backsides. New members joining a community should focus on genuine engagement rather than using platforms like POL solely for advertising their business. While promoting services is important, it should be done in a way that adds value to discussions. A great approach is to share insights, answer questions, and provide useful resources related to your field. For instance, if you're looking to build an LXP platform, you might contribute knowledge about learning experience platforms and industry trends. By fostering meaningful interactions, businesses can gain trust and long-term visibility instead of just quick promotions.

You do realize you're responding to an 8 year old post, and that everything about the Gallery and Forum has changed since then?
I'm intrigued. Do people actively go looking for old posts to comment on, and if so why? I could understand if someone wanted to add to the discussion, either give some information or ask for information about the topic. What is the point of the above comment though (unless it is the dreaded AI)? And if AI how does it find an 8 year old post? Just curious, someone might have an opinion.
You are right Sandra. Old posts for some reason seem to attract what I think of as the one hit wonder who often won’t respond to further comments! Very odd.  At the same time, I have tried searching for recent discussions which have disappeared from the forum, and have only been able to pick up suggestions which are years old. 🤷‍♀️
I do believe that most are AI , they have a few words to look for in the search and find a topic that contains them . Apparently hundreds of  posts can be stand very quickly to find a link, hence the benefit to researching for particular data etc and one of the reasons industry, governments and university’s are behind its development. Benign sites like POL are used to test the equipment, programs and to slow IT to teach itself, all quite scary stuff that years ago we imagined it in Dr Who etc and here we are  we our own life time. No doubt this are benefits for researching medical conditions etc and saves thousands of hours doing so , seen as harmless on sites like this but still a irritant.
From now on, I’m taking a firmer approach to anything verging on scam/AI etc… If it doesn’t look right, I’m going to delete it and ban the poster! If I get it wrong, which hopefully I won’t, they can re register again. We can’t allow AI, Bots and halfwits who make pointless comments on 20-year-old posts etc, to destroy this active site, which we all contribute to and enjoy.
I’m with you 100% Alan , if in doubt knock it out .
Yup.  I'm a patient old soul - which would surprise anyone who knows me - but I have let posts stand for a day or so to see if a reply is forthcoming along the lines of "No, I'm real, honest!", in which case MY reply would be "well make a better effort than a one line comment on a superannuated post, then: say something useful!" But they don't, because they're bots, or practising their nefarious techniques on us.   I am in favour of a far more repressive approach in future though, because it wastes our time, and it takes up space better used for intelligent comment.
