Thanks for your input Paul. The only edit to my post Norette was adding the below in the interest of full disclosure, something I did not realise I had to do.
I am selling this picture on ebay, which I do on some paintings from time to time. I think it is Claus Becker but I cannot be 100% certain and would like the benefit of the knowledge of the members on this site please
I was not trying to be rude at all and only responding to comments put onto my post. I am still not trying to be rude. Whatever the purpose of this group, I will no longer use it. I am a collector myself who is married to an artist who occasionally sells art and antiques.
I asked a question and the response I got was very pointed, barbed and with an agenda that I was not privy to as a newcomer to the site.
Thank you for your all of your time

Oh dear - too many assumptions made and conclusions jumped to: I blame the hotter weather.
There is no problem coming to this site and asking for advice on attribution or anything else, it's just that we can't always (or often) oblige on attribution - though we have been able to do so on occasion. I quite like doing a bit of research, personally - but of course no one is under any obligation to.

Robert both you and Alan are always helpful to people asking for a paint to be identified, and other members often join in I personally find it interesting when you come up with a name.
Clearly this time it didn’t work out but hopefully next time will be a success, sadly on this occasion I feel that Mathew was pushing for an answer. Sadly it didn’t end well .

Indeed, I do like a challenge, along with my learned colleague Robert. Generally, in fact in most cases, the signature is either missing or unreadable along with an out of focus photo as a starting point… but not always!
We, and I include a few of us on this site have successfully identified many artists in question over the years, although this doesn’t happen too often.
I didn’t contribute or offer any information on this particular piece, because I had nothing constructive to offer, but I’m sorry that it has ended with a slight altercation… that’s not our objective on here!
