The weeks are ticking by - just seven weeks left of our 2022 call for entries to our annual TALP Open and, with the Patchings Festival all set to go ahead, it's going to be an exciting exhibition. Who's hoping to be part of it this year?
The late Max Wall - probably our greatest British comedian: discuss - said 'I always prefer to come on stage to a smattering of applause; or music.  So much better than the deadly sound of total........ silence'. Well, this post seems to have achieved neither applause nor music - however: I'm sure many will participate, nonetheless, so be of good cheer POL team!  Probably not me, because I tend to avoid competitions - never quite sure why: don't tend to win them?  Maybe one day.
I'll be entering, I didn't get anywhere last year but it hasn't put me off. I'm ready to start something tomorrow, canvas all prepped, ready to go. I'm sure lot's will be entering and good luck to those who do.
I think I am going to enter too Denise!
I was going to enter - but I'm not sure.  I'm having a bit of a confidence crisis and I'm not sure my work is up to the required standard. There are some interesting projects in the new issue of The Artist.  I might try some of the techniques on one of my own source photos or dig out a preparatory sketch to use as the basis for a new piece of work.  I'm booked on a plein air painting course with Shropshire artist, Vicki Norman, in July - which will hopefully lead to improvement and inspiration (although any work I do afterwards will be too late for this year's TALP Open).
Your artwork is really good Bobby , don’t put yourself down and do something to enter then decide if you want too or not , either way you win.
Bobbie, I think, if you like entering competitions, do something. For me, I'm a tryer, I have a tiny bit of hope but I'm also fully aware rejected is a big reality but, I'd beat myself up if I didn't give it a go. I would say, just go for it.
Thank you, Paul.  I think I'm just feeling a bit blue at the moment.  There's plenty of time to do some new work, or to have a look at some of my recent pieces to see how many likes, views and comments they get.
Go for it Bobbie! It's one of the only competitions with a specific category for amateur artists!
It’s always a bit overwhelming, the thought of entering a competition. It’s always overwhelming to join a new group - “ am I good enough?” I always feel this, I think I always will….BUT…what have you got to lose? No one really knows if someone else likes your work, the important thing is, do you? If you’ve done your best you can do no more, anything else is a bonus. Start entering, why not? I’ll be entering again this year - haven’t done anything yet😆 but there’s still time. Whatever I paint I’ll paint it because it draws me, because I need to paint it. Paint what turns you on!
