Hi everyone,
I recently rented a pop-up space in Holt, Norfolk, for a week to showcase my artwork, and I wanted to share some insights from the experience.
Holt is a beautiful town with a vibrant art scene, and I was excited to bring my work to a new audience. The space I hired was centrally located and provided an ideal setting to present my coastal seascapes inspired by the Norfolk coast. However, one challenge I encountered was the lower-than-expected footfall. Despite the town’s art-loving community, the space didn’t attract as many visitors as I had hoped.
Being in a new region where I didn’t have the local connections I usually rely on at home made it a bit tough to draw in crowds. I realised that when operating in an unfamiliar area, it’s crucial to have a solid promotional strategy in place beforehand to generate interest and ensure a good turnout.
That said, the experience was still valuable. I engaged with the visitors who did come through, received meaningful feedback, and made a few sales. It was a learning curve, and I’m now better prepared for future exhibitions in new locations.
If you’re considering renting a pop-up space, especially in a new area, I’d recommend doing some extra promotion in advance and perhaps even collaborating with local artists or businesses to boost visibility.
Feel free to ask any questions—I’d be happy to share more details and tips!

It's hard Em; I've done five exhibitions during May and didn't sell a thing, and I was far from being the only one. We've got permanent displays in shop windows in Melton Mowbray but most people just walk past without looking. Sadly trying to sell art at the moment is hard work, people have other priorities.
On the other hand when you do sell one it's a wonderful feeling!
I've just realised that this posts is nine months old - why has it just popped up?
