A few days ago Oct.9, I posted my Ink drawing on the POL-gallery. Now 4 days later, I am already on page 10 or 11. Pages where nobody is ever looking at: too far away from the frontpage. So I would like to draw your attention to it so that I can please have some honest comments (positive or negative are very welcome) http://www.painters-online.co.uk/gallery/art-view,picture_203444.htm Today again I posted a Pen and Wash drawing on the gallery and it is travelling along the pages as quick as a....(don't know what exactly..) http://www.painters-online.co.uk/gallery/art-view,picture_203731.htm A great thanks I you would be so kind to have a look and maybe add a comment. I would appreciate very much :) Mia Ketels
Will take a look tomorrow Mia, it's my bed-time and I've only just seen your post. Yes, gallery contributions get whizzed through like - you may not be familiar with this phrase - a rat up a drainpipe.... Imagine all those artists who show their work on selling sites: how long does it stay visible? That's what has stopped me using one of them, that and laziness!
Just had a look Mia and two nice sketches...you seem to have quite a lot of nice positive comments on both of them.
I always like your sketches Mia, they are so good. We have talked about the gallery moving along so fast, trouble is there are artists from all over the world contributing and we can upload four paintings per day - not that most of us can do that!! Still, it would be nice if they didn't go so fast, if I don't look every day it takes ages to go through them all.
It is an issue with many of us who post on the gallery, on some days my work will be confined to the archives after only an hour or so, and I rarely go back more than two pages when commenting, I can't see any of us trawling back through ten pages of artwork. The issue of posting 4-a-day has been raised by myself and I'm sure many others to Dawn, it will be looked at in the New Year but the decision is up to Sally our editor. It costs money to alter the website and it is after all a free site. Mia, I have left a couple of comments on your work, mainly positive.
I often do track back to as many pages as I can reach - or would miss a lot. But I miss quite a bit anyway... there are so many people now posting; and I am coming round to the view that there should be an automatic limit, but Alan's right; to change the website costs money and I think TAPC do like to encourage as many people as possible to display their work.... which is good, but there are issues with it! Don't know the answer and never have, really. I'm just grateful, as I know many of us are, for the site's existence.
I never (or rarely) comment on multiple postings, I just don't have the time or enthusiasm. I expect many of these posters are using it as a free platform to display their work, diverting prospective customers to the website, so probably don't give a damn anyway about comments. The vast majority of these multiple-posters don't engage in any of the other activities such as the forum, and hardly ever give a thank you for your comment or indeed reciprocate. Basically, if I was to post 4 a day (which I could quite easily) people would soon become bored with seeing my stuff, (some may be anyway), comments would fall off gradually and that is not the idea of participating on the gallery, it's to interact with other artists. Asking people not to multiple post is a nice idea Sharon, unfortunately it will almost certainly fall on stony ground; a bit like a 'keep off the grass' notice.
I'll be hated for this......but maybe only British painters should be posting work. The dangers of having "open borders" are fairly obvious. Maybe international-based artists should have their own gallery section; I don't know, but this site is primarily about British-based magazines first and foremost. Personally I don't worry too much whether my own art gets seen or not, but there seems little point in having a free-for-all gallery at all if one's work is whizzed off-screen within minutes of posting.
Hi Mia .I have just had look through some of your work and they are wonderful ,I am answering here ,well because things fly off in the gallery .I cant see how that can change ,unless only so many a time were allowed .I have no idea ,anyway up Mia ...heres a BIG HUG to cheer you up and the times I missed you.
With great respect to Oilydust, I don't think making this a local site for local people is a great idea ... whether it would limit the numbers posting work is debatable, it might, it might not; but for a variety of reasons this would not be a good thing; some have nowhere else to show their work - we're able to see how others throughout the world are doing things - the magazines which fund this site are sold all over the world, and it really isn't feasible to say to subscribers sorry, but you can't show your work on our website. I know things get whizzed off the front page at breakneck speed sometimes, but I don't think restricting the site to British artists is either feasible or desirable. I'm not entirely sure it would legal, either.....
I'm with Robert and Sylvia on this. There are so many wonderful artists from all around the globe and it would be really detrimental if they could not show us their work.
One way of making sure that you don't miss the work of favourite artists is to "follow" them. Then you get an autogenerated alert when they upload a new painting. Probably easier than trawling through 10 pages if there is someone whose work you really don't want to miss.
