Thought I’d post this for those who aren’t aware of it - it’s an annual fundraising event where artists can donate a small     envelope sized (unframed, unmounted) painting to be sold in aid of the National Brain Appeal.  It’s a fun way to use your artwork for a good cause - I’ve taken part for the past four years.  There’s no selection process, just apply to take part  and post your artwork to the charity.  All paintings are sold anonymously (artist’s name only revealed afterwards), each for £85.  (This appeared in the latest issue of The Artist.)

An excellent charity, Jenny. A lot of strokes are caused by a bleed on the brain, mine was two blood clots on the left side of my brain, seven years ago. I’ll have to see what I can find.
Ellen, have a look at the entry details - all artwork has to be new, done specifically for the appeal - and there’s a theme each year (although it always seems to be rather loosely applied!)   (Hope you had a full recovery.)

You can see more and find the links here https://www.painters-online.co.uk/news/a-letter-in-mind-call-to-artists/ Great cause which we are always happy to help promote!
Thank you for bringing this to our attention Jenny , I do recall you mentioning it last year. We all take things for granted at times and assume it can’t happen to us, I was totally surprised and shocked several years ago when I had Transient Global Amnesia. Fortunately its only a short term memory loss , well an inability to form memories but it’s still had a devastating impact on my family. I will look to taking part .
Thank you, Jenny. Yes, I had a good recovery, it affected my speech mainly. I’ve registered, now to find a decent envelope and paint it…..!
Ellen, I’ve found they will accept artwork painted on any type of paper cut to the size of the envelope and then stuck to the front - I initially tried to paint straight onto an envelope which I found really difficult with watercolour, so now use watercolour paper.

Not wishing to appear dim, but where does the address go; over the painting?
The envelope artwork is posted in a larger envelope so doesn’t have to go through the post on its own!  Have a look at the link Dawn has posted for details.

Art for Youth had a similar thing - I don't know if they're still operating it, I lost contact when I had to change my email address, and I expect the Covid menace put paid to their exhibitions for a time. I quite enjoyed doing it, but blowed if I can really paint that small: 8" by 8" is about the farthest down I go ... though taking a quick glance at the wall behind me, I do seem to have managed a 5" by 5" or something similar: the only decent thing I've ever managed to paint at that size, I'm not a natural miniaturist by a very long way.  Still, worth doing: Art for Youth used to provide paper, but it was inevitably fairly cheap stuff, so better to cut your own to size.
Hi Jenny, I’ve done it directly on the envelope…. I had two envelopes that were quite thick, so no room for mistakes, although I wasn’t happy with the first one and that ended up in the bin.  Luck with the second….15x15 cm
That was quick!  Will have to see if I can guess which is yours when they’re all uploaded to the online gallery later after entries have closed.
