Welcome to week five, the artist for this week are Glynn Macey chosen by Ellen  and Neil Pinkett chosen by Alan Morris . If you would start the ball rolling Ellen and if you would add your painting on Wednesday lunch time Morris .  Thank you both for your suggestions, hope you all enjoy these two artists.
As Ellen hasn’t posted anything as yet I thought I would get the ball rolling and hope I haven’t chosen any she wanted to post.  It’s a random select I think reflecting his work , I did have to include a boat painting but then I would as boats are my thing.  I do like his use of bright colours, something I’m a bit timid of doing myself and I admire the looseness of his work ,  I would like to be able to do more loose paintings.
Here we go….these are painted from his USA Trip. The first one of a surfer in LA. The second one is The Grand Canyon. I love the bright colours and abstract feel.

I had the pleasure of seeing him paint a version of this at Patchings, pre covid. He is such a lively outgoing person, with a slight Cornish accent. He made it look so easy…!
You won't believe this Ellen, I actually have his book, Acrylics Unleashed, I ordered it off the site a while back. I recognised the style of the paintings put up by you and Paul and thought, I've seen some of those before and there is the book, right in front of me, Glyn Macey. What attracted me to the book in the first place, was the bright colours and abstract shapes in his land and seascapes. The book is just wonderful. It also has some exercises in it that, I mean to do at some point. It's on my list. A wonderful artist, I like all of his work.
I certainly like the boldness of his work. If only we could all “ dare”. Also, to have space around you when you paint is very important to your approach. To have freedom to express yourself - I’m making assumptions here….that all our featured artists had or have this luxury.
I had one of those nights last night awake more than asleep, spent a lot of time looking at this weeks two artist.  I can’t say l like all of it but there are some superb paintings among all their work , but then it would be odd to like everything that’s painted .  I also found a few more for the list but would welcome suggested artist for you kind folk.
I was fortunate to see some of  Glyn’s work at a mixed exhibition in St. Ives.  They are very striking and command your attention from afar.  His use of colour and loose style is very clever.
Hadn’t really looked at Glyn’s work before, although know him from his articles in The Artist. Really like his colourful vibrant style, especially the white cottage and surfer paintings already posted above.

I find the work of Neil Pinkett very inspirational, for me his paintings just shimmer with light and atmosphere.  Born in the far wast of Cornwall he gave up a successful career as an illustrator  in London and Bristol to paint professionally (primarily) the Cornish landscape.  I find it incredibly that he is able to capture the light of Cornwall with a very limited pallet of just student quality Cobalt Blue, plus a more expensive Cobalt Blue, Alizarin Crimson, Cadmium Yellow and White.  He works primarily with a painting knife, there are at least 3 YouTube video online that show his working methods.  I’m not sure I’m allowed to add links to them here.

Looking through his work, I have to agree, it does shimmer with light. I really like the texture of palette knife paintings, the bold marks and the added interest that a painting knife brings to a painting. These two, really caught my eye. Treen Sands and Zennor Fields.
