Welcome to this week’s thread the featuring artists this week are :
Peter Barrett and Ralph Thompson, I will open this evening with an introduction to the illustrator and artist Peter Thompson , on Wednesday Sylvia will introduce her chosen artist Ralph Thompson.
Peter Barrett 1935.
His early education took place during the Second World War, in Kent, Lancashire,North Wales and Surrey . He went on to Dulwich College where he was singled out by the Art Master , a Royal Academias, for extra art education.
Peter attended evening classes at Chelsea Art School before National Service in the Royal Navy, on completion of his service he was offered place at Camberwell Art School a well as the chance to attend university.
He refused both , preferring to learn from experience.
Peter has illustrated over forty books on wildlife as well as children’s books .
Bio from susanbarrettwriter.com.
I hope that you enough my selection of his work , to me another fine artist that is mainly ignored because he is an illustrator. Why is it that this is often the case , some illustrator are far more competent that a lot os those who are labelled artists .

Just a wee word of caution. I was going to post some Peter Barrett landscapes but realised Peter Barrett illustrator and Peter Barrett landscape artist are not the same person. If I recall correctly the latter is based in South Africa. I gave up when I discovered there is also a US based artist who goes by the name of …… Peter Barrett.

Thanks for the advice Tony , I have discovered over the last few years just how many artists there are with the same name.
What’s dose t help of course is that google tends to lump them together ,also some people post work of one artist on a story about another, we have come across it occasionally on these threads I’m certainly guilty of adding the wrong person’s work.

RALPH THOMPSON.
I found this artist a while ago and he ticked so many boxes of the things I think are precious. His style is so loose , free and just so well observed. Plus he has drawn in situ in Africa and eyeballed a lion as I have I can’t resist his lovely work.
NB we are all becoming animal orientated on here. Apology’s in advance for spelling mistakes and skew Wuff…
