Welcome to this weeks thread the featuring artists for this week are :
Stephen John Owen and Matt Payne .
I will start the week of with my introduction to Stephen John Owen , on Wednesday Sandra will introduce us to the artwork of Matt Payne .
I hope you enjoy the selections we make and find more online to share with us.
Stephen John Owen, born in Caernarfon in 1959. Stephen is a self taught artist his art teacher was a big influence although he followed other career paths when he left school art remained important to Stephen.
Today he takes classes and workshops he shares his information and skills with others, his work can be found in many private collections in both Wales and further afield. The raw beauty of the Welsh landscape with its winding roads leading to a smattering of rubble stone cottages, the dramatic coastline and mountainous countryside are not lost on Stephen.
We have seen similar artists to Stephen in the last few years, I check back and can find no record of seeing his work before, however I’ve been wrong before.
I know Tessa is aware of his work , I just hope I haven’t let her or indeed the artist down with my introduction and choices of his work.
Here we go then

Last but not the least the artist himself with his dogs on a rugged looking beach , bet that’s not the Bahamas then boyo .

An informative intro, Dixie.
This artist's work is pleasing to the eye, for me anyway. I've spent a few hours viewing his work on the internet, and the artwork doesn't cost a fortune.
I'll pop a few in later on.
I've tried to download a few images but my security keeps telling me it's a no no, unsecure download.

The work is strangely familiar, although I don't know the artist. This thread has shown us several artists covering similar subject matter, so maybe that's to be expected.
This one, featured above, had me thinking it was by a different artist...
...but it isn't. It features on the artists website. It has a strong similarity to the work of the Scottish artist Alexander Miller. His figures have a caricature element, usually featuring working men with their backs to the viewer.
That said I like this artists work.

It’s certainly a relief that you are enjoying this artist I was a bit concerned as we have had several similar artists featured before and they can tend to look the same . There is something about his work that I really like but can’t put my finger on what’s attracted me to them. Lew the one you posted I too thought it was a different person who had painted it, but double checked and yes it’s his work lime you said . Alan is correct when he mentioned the influence from KW I think quite a few artists have been inspired by the great man .

Matthew Payne
Matthew Payne is a contemporary Auckland based landscape painter. Originally from a sporting background, in earlier years he has represented New Zealand in Waterpolo at Commonwealth and World Championship level, which he complemented with a degree in Sport and Recreation. Since 2004, Matt has devoted himself to art. After graduating from the Whitecliffe College for Fine Arts he has been working full time as an artist and has been featured in many exhibitions. He primarily works in acrylic on canvas, as well as limited edition screen and giclee prints.
Much of Matt’s work is inspired by a love of New Zealand’s landscapes and coastlines, which is reflected in dramatic compositions and depicted with vivid colour and extraordinary attention to detail. He has a fascination with the relationship between colour, light and form and how these are perceived by the eye.
He says, “The aim for me is to capture the essence of what it is I’m painting. It can be an emotion, a feeling, or a mood. I am fascinated by how an image is just tiny bits of colour joined or linked together like some sort of code. I love to explore the relationships between colour, light, and form and how these elements are seen by the eye when they are put together.”
Many of his paintings are beach scenes around Auckland and further north.
