Welcome to this weeks thread the featuring artist this week are : Hashim Akib and Doreen Fletcher. Jenny will start with her introduction to Hashim Akib and on   Wednesday I will introduce Doreen Fletcher .  Have a good week and enjoy whatever you do.

HASHIM AKIB is a popular, internationally recognised artist.  Born 1967 in Essex, he began painting at a very early age, and despite acquiring art diplomas from Southend College, said his real education began when he started pounding the streets of London with his portfolio. He began his career as an illustrator and for 15 years worked with a wide range of clients including Time Magazine and the Royal Mail.  This gave him a solid grounding in drawing and painting for when he later moved into producing fine art for galleries, a move which enabled him to work on a more diverse range of subjects and avoid the tight deadlines involved in working as an illustrator.  His work quickly gained recognition and today he also teaches at workshops both overseas and in the UK where he is also in demand for art club demonstrations. He mostly paints with heavy body acrylics in an expressive, colourful style.  He likes realism but with the minimum of mark making and uses this approach for all his work, including portraits.  His canvases begin as relatively abstract studies, adding layers of detail and light which eventually resolve into recognisable images in a very painterly style.  (He has done a number of demonstrations at my local art club over the years and it’s always interesting to see this approach in action.  He’s also a very engaging speaker.) He has been featured in various art publications, including The Artist, and has won numerous awards for his work.  His book, Vibrant Acrylics, first published by Search Press in 2012, has since been translated into French, German, Italian and Dutch.

This sort of work strikes me as more technique than content. Very commercial but that’s about it.

I really like his paintings, especially the first, the red London buses and the sunlight through the tree. I have enjoyed his articles in The Artist and will have a deeper look later. Thanks Jenny.
