I can’t find any paintings she had done of young people, maybe her thing is to paint older people , I personally think it offers more of a challenge. Her work is fascinating and I do like how she works but I wouldn’t want one on my wall , looking at the hand would be like looking at my own and that’s bad enough.

They all look as if they've been very laboriously (though very skilfully) copied from still photographs of her subjects - and indeed, she says as much. I appreciate her motivation in steering away from the perpetual lure of youth, but the photo-realist approach doesn't appeal to me no matter how well done it may be. Presumably she does other work - perhaps a little further from the cusp of the grave.....
Her depiction of aged skin, though, is very (and rather distressingly) accurate; number two down is of an impressive matriarch, the last but one a very telling observation of frailty along with the determination to remain interested in the world; and in all cases, her treatment of fabrics is brilliantly achieved. But I'm over 70 too - perhaps it's a bit too close to home for comfort; not, I think, that comfort was something she had any wish to give.
