Welcome to this weekend’s bonus artist thread , I had to check  back over the last couple of years as I was convinced we had featured my bonus artist before. I think it because I looked at the artist I’m going to introduce in depth and then get confused when it come to writing up the introduction anyway I can’t find a previous posting unless it’s hidden in one of our week special . So here we go do let me know if we have seen his work before  : Joseph Zbukvic 1952 ,  was born in Zagreb Croatia, he was discouraged by his parents from perusing his interest in art , particularly painting .  Political instability eventually forced Zbukvic and his family to flee to Australia, where he continues pursue his artistic interests and career . There is a bio on the artists road.net.  I hood you enjoy my choices of his work and find some more online that you particularly like and will post them .
I've certainly seen his work before - often - but not I think in this series on POL.  He's extremely well-known and, as is obvious, extremely talented. The sort of cove who could cause you to take your watercolours, and brushes, and paper, and jump up and down on them before burning the lot, because I find him the next best thing to supernatural in his abilities. Maybe I have odd tastes, but of the paintings in the selection so far (I'm sure there'll be more, but yet again I couldn't sleep so this rheumy-eyed early bird is first at the worm) the one I like the best is the first one: and just to be difficult, I'd have preferred it without the boat, which I don't think was needed.  This is purely a personal preference and not in any sense a comment on what might be considered the "best".  Criticizing him could be compared to taking a spade to a soufflé, as someone said of P G Wodehouse.
I also like the first but am strangely drawn to the red umbrellas! Another very fine artist Dixie. Thanks Dixie, very impressive.
Talented, skilled, yes but.....looking at his work online there wasn't anything that leapt out and said this would be a good one to share. Having said that I like his work, the chefs is my favourite out of the examples above, and I can't help thinking that with a touch more green in the grey, that first one could almost be a Corot
Yes, I've certainly seen this style before.  I'm amazed the chefs picture is a watercolour. I think I would very frustrated if I'd continued with watercolours and then compared them to this. Still, there are others who've copied/used this style, (especially the wet street, back lit people) so perhaps there's a knack to it?
The chef without a doubt for me also! It’s the stand-out work without doubt! I’ve seen similar styles of wet in wet watercolours of street scenes, Venice etc, they do little for me - although I appreciate the skill needed for this technique!
I think he's been featured before as the 'red umbrellas' seems very familiar, but he's certainly well worth another look.
Some of his work seems familiar to me as well, particularly the chef painting, but there are so many outstanding watercolour artists these days, some of whom we’ve already featured, that it’s often difficult to tell one artist’s work from another.
He was featured in week 22, so some time ago. I think the umbrellas painting is wonderful.
Well done Andrew I didn’t look that far back as I thought it was over the last year or so he might have featured. Having not seen his work for so long it’s good to revisit such and excellent artists work once again , it was the chef painting and the umbrellas that  triggered my thought of seen this before. Sorry for repeating his work in one way ,  however certainly please to see it again, worth another viewing when it’s such high quality, skilled work.
Though I would add some of his sketches , I find these Interesting and useful for understanding how the artist works.
