MARY JEAN RUHNKE is a professional artist who lives on a goat and cattle farm in Texas. With over 13 years of self-taught experience she has created her own individual style of mixed media artwork using brushes, a palette knife, acrylic pigments and ink. Her paintings are often on quite a large scale.
She draws inspiration from her inner child and her environment, often using her own photos for reference. She finds solace in the creative process, using it to manage her stress and symptoms from ulcerative colitis. Hers is a story of pain and healing, hope and courage, and by opening up about her own personal struggles alongside her artwork, she encourages viewers to also find their strength in times of hardship. Her story is a testament to the power of art and its ability to transform and heal us.
