Jenny what a find! I just love all these paintings- but especially the girl and dog. I can see the impressionistic influence in them and like the way her figures are the main focus and stand out from the much looser, mark making backgrounds with the bigger marks of her palette knife, which work especially well for the movement of the sea.
The rock face in this is impressive Just love this composition with the sea, figures and reflections.
Illustrative work of EH. Shepard more so the WW1 sketches, especially the officer handing a note the the wounded soldier and the trench bunker, thanks for these, Dixie. And Claire McCall. her work is eye-catchingly sun-lit, not one I could choose from as a favorite, thanks, Jenny.
A superb selection of work for Claire Mc Call,  very vibrant and she achieves great depth and strength of colour. I like how most of her compositions are from behind the subjects, leaving a little to the imagination of the viewer. She makes great use of that wonderful Australian light and I like the use of palette knife which gives her figures a sharper look.
This had disappeared out of sight - just bringing it up again.
There is undoubtedly a 'freshness' to the work of Claire McCall, especially in the two paintings shown by Christine.   These two caught my eye on McCall's website.
I'm  probably not qualified to comment , but , is it just me ?  surely those reflections of the dogs and crouching people should be not be sand-coloured  ? . In all other respects her paintings are great , wonderful clarity , colours and boldness .  Steve
A reflection should be a mirror image, same colours only slightly darker generally! This one doesn’t look right to me either Stephen! Unless someone tells me differently!  Marjorie is often drawing figures with reflections on her sand paintings, what does she say?

I think you're both right - I stared at that painting thinking 'something amiss', but couldn't see what it was: you might get away with suggesting it was actually patches of sand, but the clear delineation of the dog on the left is obviously supposed to be a reflection or shadow.  The other dog, shown in splashes of white, could be a reflection in wet sand - but I don't see how that could be the case for the first one.
I was trying to think why I don't like them and sadly I don't.   They are exactly what my eyes are doing to me right now. The distortion and lack of clarity is what I am seeing.    Hence I can't drive and stuff moves.  Interesting.  Maybe I should go for it and paint in this manner...  perhaps she has eye problems as well.
Now you say it I see what you mean! I still like her work and the life in it.
Tessa I have wondered whether the impressionist had eye problems...may be I'm joining a happy band.
