Welcome to week 54 , this weeks artists are Jane Glue and Charlie MacKesy . Gillian will start us off with her introduction to Jane Glue and on Wednesday Jill will introduce Charlie MacKesy  . Have a good week and enjoy the artwork.
Paul, just to clarify - I had suggested Charlie Mackesy and will do an intro. on Wednesday.
Sorry I knew it was you Jenny but for some reason wrote Jill, I thought I had put Jenny till just now . I’ve come down with the flu today and my concentration is virtually zero.
Thanks, Paul.  Sorry to hear you’re poorly, hope it doesn’t last long.
Dixie - get better!  Flu is just horrible, and you deserve to take a break - attend to yourself, not to us: come back when you can - the older I get, the more I stay away from people: it's not very sociable of me, but avoiding schoolchildren is the best way I know to avoid infection, because the little devils inculcate it and pass it on to their poor parents and grandparents!  We need to look after ourselves as we trudge along the path of life, and sons, daughters, nephews and nieces need to play their part by keeping their germy little angels away from us - I know we shouldn't hold them at bay if we can avoid doing so, but better that than acquiring a convenient ticket to the crematorium!
Sorry folks can’t do intro now but will post it this afternoon! Get well quickly Paul!
Jane Glue is a well loved Orkney artist . Born in Orkney she studied at Grey’s school of art Aberdeen followed by Harrow school of art in London. She returned to Orkney in 1985 and has been a professional artist ever since. She runs a highly  successful business. I love how she captures the Orkney landscape, how the sky dominates our islands and the colour and light. She mostly paints in watercolour but also mixed media. For more info she has a website but as it is her business I cannot include a link but Google will help. I have included a few photos to give you a flavour
All beautiful - ooh , that top one has such excellent perspective.
I really like the middle one, Gillian - both style and colours.  And these…

Excellent paintings Gillian, the seascapes are just so good. I do think that when a artist paints a local scene they seem to capture the soul of the place in this case a place that can be wild to the point of danger yet be so beautiful.
I feel her connection with the landscape and the great outdoors. I like all of the above, but am especially drawn to the third of Gillian’s selection. The gulls are quite hard to see initially but I think that’s quite clever, as they become part of the seascape. Will look at her website later.  I also like the idea of an artist who paints solely or at least largely, their local surroundings. Thanks Gillian.
Charlie Mackesy, born in 1962, is a British painter, illustrator, and author of the much loved book ‘The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse’. He began his career as a cartoonist for the Spectator before becoming a book illustrator for Oxford University Press.  His internationally best selling book, published in 2019, is the longest running Sunday Times Non-Fiction Number One of all time and has been translated into over 40 languages.  The illustrations and accompanying words in the book - which were initially posted on Instagram until he was approached to compile them into a book - have been shared around the world, bringing comfort to many people, and can be found in school classrooms, women’s safe houses, prisons and hospital wards.  The book was recently adapted into an animated short film. His paintings have been exhibited widely and his bronze sculptures can be found in public spaces in London.  Illustrations from the book
