Welcome to this weeks Inspiration from Artist's and what a historical week ahead . This weeks Artist's are Ernst and Tanguy both suggested by Michael.  I will leave you to decide which one you want to start with Michael as the week is yours .
I thought that I would start the thread off and hope that Michael will pick up the intro later . Hope  I haven’t used paintings he intends to use.

As Michael hasn’t as yet posted a introduction I though I would do a short one . Max Ernst 1891-1976 was a German sculptor, painter, printmaker graphic artist and poet . He was a primary pioneer of the Dada movement and surrealism in Europe. I hope all is well with you Michael.  Some more of his work

Odd stuff  , not too sure what I think about it.
Weird indeed, not my cup of tea at all! Lack of comments suggest I’m not alone?
Odd stuff indeed, and I expect Tessa is correct as to why there are few comments.  It is difficult to know what to say, but I do find Dixies's 4th picture, the one that seems to have green sculpted stonework, is strangely attractive.
If I’m taken with any of them it would be the fourth down with the blueish flowers. He was obviously a skilful painter but just not for me.
I quite like this one. I have been reading about him and he was influenced by the readings of Freud, says a lot to me about some of his paintings.

As Denise said explains some of his paintings quite odd but there is a good artist in there .  Sorry I’m late in posting this as I have been running a workshop for the National Trust today and just returned home.  As Michael has not make any comment I will introduce his other choice of artist Yves Tanguy 1900 - 1955 a French surrealist painter. I think his paintings are really well painted but as I’m not into this sort of painting I don’t feel enthused by it, I do however recognise the skill he had .
Both of these artists are familiar names, but I don’t remember seeing any of their work before.  Like you, Paul, I don’t feel enthused by them, but of the two I prefer Tanguy, although the green painting of Ernst’s that you posted is rather interesting.

Hoping that Michael is OK. I haven't commented thus far because I don't really have anything to say - I can manage abstract art, though not so well as some, but anything surrealist induces yawns, however skilled it is.  Not for nothing have I been called a joyless old wotsit... Ernst produced many paintings I find more interesting than those shown - I'll try to search them out.  Tanguy was known to me only by name - and despite myself, I find the selection of his work interesting.  I wouldn't buy it, but then I couldn't anyway.
I messaged Michael earlier this week but have not received a reply as yet . Next weeks artists are Jonathan Yeo and Henry Tonks . I will open the thread as usual on Sunday Evening and open the bonus artist shortly.
