I don't know much about Dali, so I just watched a couple of videos in which he was being interviewed. One early in his career and one much later. He was quite the eccentric. What struck me was that he said his personality was more important than his painting and that his paintings were just a small extension of the bigger picture. In the later interview, he said his paintings carried no hidden message. I think he was obsessed with calculations and logarithms that, really made no sense. I do like some of his work, not all but some. I do think he had some genius when it came to art. Face of War. The Kabuki Dancer. Apparatus and Hand.
There's a rather beautiful drawing by Dalí of Harpo Marx - if anyone can find it.  In terms of personality, I much prefer Harpo, but - got to be careful of judging a painter by what we think he might have been like; especially with a man like SD, who seemed to have multiple personalities.

And here it is.
I don't think it looks an AWFUL lot like Harpo, though..
I think it is a good likeness and done so delicately. I really like it Robert. It's beautiful.
I’m having one of those weeks where I would forget my head if it wasn’t screwed on, next weeks arts are Arthur Rackham and Alfred East. I’m looking forward to Jenny introducing  Arthur Rackham and Roberts  introduction of Albert East. I agree with Denise there is a good likeness to Groucho in his younger days , it’s very delicately drawn and superb portrait.
I do love the Georgia O'Keefe examples.  Perhaps it's her use of colour and the  curvaceous shapes. Wonderful.  I can't say I'm a fan of Dali's work. I seem to remember being interested in it when I was much younger but now I find it a bit disturbing and unsettling.

Paul  (Dixie) Dean on 30/06/2022 09:23:57 I finally retired from my voluntary job this evening - I may never need to wear a suit and tie again!  So will have a crack at Alfred East.
Congratulations on your retirement Robert, I hope you now find time to do all the thing that you have need to put on hold. Most importantly time to get the brushes out more regularly. I will have  it all set up for Sunday evening

Robert, think of all that time you will have to paint wonderful things and most importantly,  enjoy your retirement.
As I've said before I just love Dali's work and can look at it for hours even though very little of it stands the 'Would I hang It On My Walls' test  The sheer thought processes and imagination are something else - well here's another one: Well you've got to smile haven't you!
