Good choices Paul...
Found a couple more that I like, mainly for their rich colour.

Oh wow...
And a few more from me, rather liking some of her architectural pieces.
Salvador Dali 1904 - 1989 I don't think Salvador Dali needs an introduction from me as I'm certain that everyone here is more than familiar with his work. I guess he's remembered as much for his rather eccentric personality as for his work which I'm sure will divide opinion. I don't possess the intellect to even attempt to interpret the Freudian theories about dreams and the subconscious mind that are often themes in his paintings, but it has never prevented me from simply marvelling at the iconic imagery he has created throughout his life and the sheer technical brilliance of the man.
I have never particularly been a fan of Dali but maybe I didn’t look far enough into his work! Your selection is excellent and stunning Russell, and I especially like the crucifixion and the head paintings. As you say his technical skills are just brilliant and I shall look further! Thanks for the intro and such a good choice.
I visited the Dali mueum in Figueres in Catalonia many years back and have been hooked on his work ever since. Forget his eccentricities and just study his work: yes it is photorealistic in many senses but that is contrasted by his genius brain in which he juxtaposes hallucinatory imagery.  I remember being transfixed by a study, I forget the correct title, but it was a fantastic painting of a person which was stunning in itself but the lady had a rasher of bacon on her head - again perfectly painted. So simple yet so bizarre - now who could think up something like that? He is in my mind at the top of the distinguished list of surrealist artists which includes other giants like Arp, Magritte, Ernst and Tanguy.

I’ve always been fascinated by Surrealist art, especially Dali’s, although I’m not sure I could live with any of it.  It’s the melting watch paintings that I most remember him for. Swans Reflecting Elephants Melting Watch

Thanks for the intro Russell and like Tessa I have never looked at his work. Your choices are excellent and doing as Michael suggests forget his eccentricity works.  Michael is that three more artists we should be looking at and include on the list?.

I've mentioned four actually but, yes, we could include them either together, in pairs or individually. Leave it to you.
Thank you Michael,  I will add them and let you know well in advance what’s happening. Looking at it I think we will go for pairs but I will leave a couple of weeks between the pairs.
Strange art indeed, but I've always admired his work.  His technique allowed him to paint reality perfectly should he have chosen, but the whole point of Dali and surrealism is to go beyond reality.  Wonderful work, compulsive viewing.   I found his verbal outbursts and behaviour cringe-making at times...but ignore that at look at his paintings.
