Welcome to week 14 , we had two very famous artist last week and this week we have two that are maybe not as well known. This week’s artists are Sarah Adams : suggested by Tony and David Roberts : suggested by Linda .
If you would start us off with your artist Tony and as usual if you would follow on Wednesday lunch time Linda. Im looking forward to seeing their work as they are both unknown to me , hope you all enjoy the week.
Sarah Adams
Sarah is an English artist born in 1962. Her early years were in Berkshire before the family moved to the Channel Islands when she was in her teens. This move she says made the sea a constant presence and it has come to dominate her work.
Sarah studied at Falmouth College of Art, Gloucestershire College of Art & Technology, The Royal College of Art, and finally the University of Mysore in southern India.
She exhibited regularly in Jersey between 1995 and 2004, and in more recent years has had solo exhibitions at the Rupert Maas Gallery in London. She has traveled widely in Europe, America, South Africa and India, before settling in Cornwall and opening her studio and gallery in Padstow in 2006.
Sarah’s father was a Master Builder and she says she inherited his love of construction and architecture which featured heavily in her college work. She also found inspiration from waste lands and derelict sites in London.
Her paintings, many of which are of quite large scale, begin with visits to caves on the Cornish coast to make initial sketches, preliminary paint sketches, and then are built up in the studio taking usually around six months to complete. She has kayaked to more inaccessible caves (complete with dog) in pursuit of inspiration and is fascinated by the different strata of rock , minerals etc..

I hope you enjoy looking at Sarah’s work. I have visited her gallery and studio in Padstow and found her very friendly and willing to give her time to explain her work. It’s a fascinating insight to literally see an artist in the studio and how she works.
Amazing paintings Tessa , I was looking at a photo taken inside a cavern a few days ago and thought I would love to paint that , now I’m more inspired to have a go. Will look at her work and see what I particularly like.

We her work is certainly unique, I don’t know of any other artists painting caves , rocks etc. These are just a few that I particularly like , she does capture the strata in the rocks beautifully. I picked out a seascape but you beat me to it Tessa.
