Welcome to this week’s no bonus artist I’m proud to present a fellow Yorkshireman  William Manners 1869 - 1930. Born in Bradford he was self taught in oils watercolour and gouache but predominately painted in watercolour and gouache. Another artist in recently discovered through the thread , he is one of the finest landscape painter I have come across and without is at the top of my list . Unlike a lot of artist around at the time he did not go in for hyper details and leave what I call something to our imaginations . Hope you enjoy this superb landscape artist and I look forward to your views , opinions and  choices of paintings. I had to make myself stop picking out paintings to post.
I’ve not heard of him before, I like some of his landscapes, his treatment of trees is particularly good. I’ve found this rather fine piece, I liked the application of thickish paint more to my liking. The Village Pump
Thinking about his thread… I’m actually enjoying reading and looking at the work of perhaps lesser known artists such as this one, and a few more we’ve looked at already - am I alone here? But, I’ve got the very well known Turner looming on the horizon, and I’ll try and come up with something a bit different…
I’m looking forwards to Turner . I’m not as well read as you are regarding artist Alan but I have to admit that I do enjoy the lesser well know , it’s like making a fresh discover . I think we don’t realise just how many good artist are out there and still many many more we will probably not hear of sadly . But to go back to your comment it’s certainly the variety of artist that make it so enjoyable and having the well known artist mixed with the lesser  that keeps the interest going. I certainly don’t think your alone and I’m sure quite a few would agree.
Agree that it’s really enjoyable looking at such a wide variety of artists, including those not so well known.   I’m not a great fan of traditional landscapes and, much as I enjoyed looking through William Manners’ work, it doesn’t really appeal to me.   I did, though, come across this oil painting of his which I like and which is a bit different to most of his watercolour landscapes.

Two very good paintings Alan and Jenny. I’m pleased we don’t all like exactly the same painting or artist it would be a very boring thread with similar paintings all the time. I think what I like about his work is it’s not over detailed to use a common phrase in reverse it not to chocolate box. Your choice is a good examples of what I mean , I suppose it’s Victorian without being to Victorian if I make sense. I agree re his trees Alan , I’m sure it’s  what attracted me at first, I do love trees and it’s the thing I look at in landscape paintings first. I’m sure I subconsciously search out the trees then look at the others parts of the landscape , I’ve only come to realise that recently.

Wow, The Village Pump and the oil, Jenny posted are crystal clear. I've not come across this artists but I will definitely be taking a look at his work at some point, today.
