Good point made Dixie. Her work appeals to me still if I concentrate on the landscape without the figures, and I think her composition, trees and distance work are wonderful. This gives a sort of completeness when the animals are included. I think that adults reading these books to their children would have appreciated the illustrations very much, which creates a happy result.
As we became  older and learn to read as children the tendency was and still is is to concentrate on the words not the illustrations, very young children as we who are parents or grandparents will know look at the pictures . If you as a child to look and tell a story about it they will made some excellent observations, as I’ve mentioned before I’m dyslexic and of an age when it was seen very differently.  Books  like these were a god send to me as I could make up my story that wasn’t far from the actual storyline. Probably one of the reason I tend to put details into my own painting and alway want them to tell a story.
Just keep doing what you're doing Paul, and thanks, it's brilliant.
I like her work, nostalgic for sure, but young readers today would still respond to her paintings and illustrations if given the opportunity.
I agree Russell both my youngest granddaughters were looking at the artwork on the thread and commented on how the painting were a story on there own .  The younger one spent ages looking at each one posted to see what she could find in them and discovered some that were nir so obvious.
