Welcome to this weekend’s bonus artist thread my choice of artist this week is
Fiona Haldane , born in Dundee Fiona attended Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art between 1975 - 75.
She first started to exhibit in 1996 and is now recognised as one of the leading pastel painting landscape artists in Scotland.
Fiona has become widely renowned for her characteristic and richly toned portrayals of the dramatic mountain landscape of the Highlands.
She is also known known for her evocative studies of the ever changing skies and shoreline around her native Broughly Ferry and the Tay Estuary.
Bio via Atholl Gallery.
I hope you enjoy my selection of her superb artwork.

She certainly seems to capture the essence of the landscape, though I find her tendency to long thin, letter box, formats distracting - too much for the eye to take in. I particularly like Dixie's first choice (the light on the bridge) and his penultimate choice - the waterfall in full flow. Looking around in the ether, I was attracted to this one, 'Towards Marsco, Skye' though the rather small (6.5 x 5 in) size of the print on offer is disappointing.

I don't know what it is about Broughty Ferry and Dundee, but there have been some fabulous painters from there (incidentally, our mate Syd Edward lived there). I hadn't known about this artist - pastel is not a medium I look out for, particularly: not sure why - but the late Ken Bushe came from up thataway, too: yes, it must help to have such fabulous scenery - I wish we had a mountain and lake or two down here on the Isle of Wight - but we'll all have seen lousy paintings of great scenery (don't mention Bob Ross, people will think you're obsessed): this painter, inspired by her surroundings, does them full justice.
