This weeks bonus artist is Paul Wright A British artist with a recognisable unique style which has earned him a place in the BP National Portrait Awards on two occasions. Paul  studied at the distinguished Falmouth College of Art. I hope you enjoy his work and the selection I have made .
Just, just so exciting....colour ,vibranc....brill.
Tried to work out how he does it. I'm guessing a standard portrait overlaid with the fabulous colour. Or is the colour an intrinsic part of the likeness? A new introduction to me and I like the portraits especially.  I think the style is less effective for landscape/interiors.
I like a few of his portraits, especially the one of Michael Jackson.  To me, the interiors and landscapes just look messy, although I did find these two which I like with their lovely fresh colours.

Not a fan I’m afraid, a little too over the top re brushstrokes. They don’t calm me when I look at them, the opposite in fact. The landscapes work better for me.
I can't say it's something I like or find very interesting. I'm sure it's someone's sort of thing though.
Sound very much like my view in not sure If I like them or not , different and nice to see different work but I wouldn’t hang one on my wall .
Portraits interesting - landscapes ... I need a bit more time with those.  The penultimate one I could live with; the last one is a bit beyond anything I'm likely to appreciate.  The one with the bear is - so far as I'm concerned - a mess.  PS - the last one, several minutes later, is growing on me; it has a glow, and puts me in mind of shards of glass.

Contrary to most, I really like this style of work.  Never been a fan of detailed photographic reproduction as the better it is technically, why not just take a photograph? I love the bold unusual work that can't be mistaken for anything than what it is; some-one's personal art. Yes, I've tried most styles, but this, for me, is pure art.  I just love the Landscapes.
Jim you have made my day, it so good to hear that you like it so much . One  of the reasons I start the thread and spoke with Dawn was  to introduce new artists but as the title says Inspiration from so that is another reason. When you and include Jenny in this spend time looking at artist to present it very rewarding when someone is enthusiastic about your choice and I’m sure that  people who have contributed to the thread feel much the same . I do se a similarity to your own work bold brush strokes and less detailed leaving much to the viewer imagination keep at it good sir.
Such  different opinions , great.   I just think they are amazing, the only one that  doesn't work fot me is the polar bear and the rainbow. Lol Note to self...check what I post My eyes and fingers are at odds.

Jim (and Sylvia) take a look at that video demo I just posted under the Oil heading - such striving for representational perfection, and where does it get us?  The artist wasn't satisfied with his own work because it differed - in a way he couldn't see - from the photograph he was laboriously copying.  I do admire his skill, particularly given the rather low grade paints he was using, but I've fought for years against my temptation to be too "accurate" - haven't succeeded entirely, but say not the struggle naught availeth....
