Welcome yo this week Inspiration from Artists the featuring artists this week are:  Georges Laporte and Carry Ackroyd, I will open the thread with a  introduction to Georges Laporte and on Wednesday Jenny will introduce Carry Ackroyd. Georges Laporte 1926- 2000. Was a French painter, lithographer and illustrator best known for his maritime oil paintings of coastal landscapes. He began painting in the mid- 1940s and by 1958 he had won the Sabastien Lepage Award at the Salon of French Artists. He found a studio in Qiubecom in Brittany in the 1960s where he began painting seascapes in earnest.  I hope you enjoy my choice of his artwork.
I do like the limited palette and the "apparent"  simplicity.

"Apparent" being the word, of course.  Yes, this is painting.  Without over-emphasizing a point (well - it is over-emphasizing it, sorry about that) this is use of real paint and physical application of same - not fiddling about with an Ipad and taking applications from computerized systems to produce bland images.  There are artists who have deserved to resort to this in their extreme old age: and others who have no such excuse for the povery of their work. I do recognize that my opinions are aggressive, by the way.  And I do seek to bring this trend to a head in order to end it.   It's a pity that I do so on the back of a splendid artist's work: but then - the fact that he is a spledid artist demonstrates what can be done with traditional media, rather than with mechanistic excuses for it.
Third one down - lovely movement, 4th one I also like, 7th also. Lovely texture and palette, no frills but all the better for it.
Thank you Dixie. It’s a relief to see ‘real’ painting!
Thank you Tessa and Marjorie. Robert I’m a little disappointed that you have brought you view on digital art into this thread I think there are enough discussion going on elsewhere without it spilling over , a three threads discussion is enough already .
Definitely!
Some of his lithographs.
I like these Paul, very accomplished work. I particularly like his use of almost white highlights, but carefully positioned highlights and not dotted around the painting which is distracting and to be avoided!
When I selected and posted them  I thought they might appeal to you Alan,  as you have mentioned prints and lithographs as something you do like .
These are beautiful - the subject matter plays a large part for me.
I also like his lithographs, and much prefer them to his other work.  Like Alan, I find it’s the use of the white highlights which makes them so appealing.
