He can certainly draw and paint trees , love to be able to do then this good.
Most of the abstract paintings in this Krasner collection are doing nothing for me - though I think one of the reasons for that is the scale: I have a fairly large monitor, as befits my poor eyesight, but not large enough to get any sense of their presence, and certainly not their texture: they appear very flat, and I don't care for her sense of colour.  The exception to this is Bald Eagle - is that because my literal mind is able to make some sense of it (I know better than to look for "sense" in an abstract painting, but what I know and what my eyes appreciate are two different things.  (I'm not sure I'm being entirely fair to myself there - I do appreciate the work of Jackson Pollock, Miró, and any number of other abstract painters - but am struggling with this one). The Francis Hamel work ( which Paul thought I'd agreed to introduce, but no - and he did a fine job of stepping in for the person who had offered) is completely new to me, and much more relatable (there's one I'm not so sure about, but this would be nit-picking in such a luscious display).  I've had a look at Hamel's website, and - well, it's one of those that make you feel maybe you should put your brushes away and devote your twilight years to a simpler avocation.... but trying to compare oneself to these artists is something one shouldn't do, even though it's very hard not to.  Here is someone who has devoted his life to perfectng his art: HE won't think he's perfected it - do any of us?  His dedication thuds through every brush-stroke.   That isn't to say that I like all of the paintings shown here or on his website - but there's no arguing with his skill and achievement.
By the way, have we all noticed that Dixie has turned into a hippopotamus....?
The hippo is representative of how things are wallowing in s  t or whatever but wallowing definitely.
Next weeks featuring artist are Ilya Repin and Elaine de Kooning. I will open the thread on Sunday evening and Robert will open with his introduction to Ilya Repin followed by Martin on Wednesday lunchtime.
Looking forward to Repin...(no pressure, :-) 🙂)
I’m a bit late to the party, having been frustratingly locked out of my account since last Thursday, but just wanted to say how much I like the work of Francis Hamel and especially his painting of light which I find magical. Great choice.
