Hi everybody. I'm Jackie Garner, and I've been writing about acrylics for Leisure Painter for just over a year. I love acrylics and will happily talk about them endlessly. I thought I'd introduce myself, because even if you've noticed my articles, you won't necessarily have seen the one about my work. I used to be on this forum regularly, but other things took over and I haven't posted for years. That's about to change. I'm primarily a wildlife artist, but my art's evolving, so now I tend to say I'm an artist inspired by the natural world. I love pattern in nature: wildlife camouflage: rock formations: plus ripples, lichens, seed pods, shells... When I'm not painting, I'm blogging, teaching workshops (or I was until Covid-19 hit), tour leading and currently writing a series of eBooks about the business side of being an artist. Oh, and I think I published an art book since the last time I was on the forum. That's probably what got in the way of my participation.  Looking forward to lots of conversations in the forum in the coming months.
Good!  Acrylics and oil are my mediums of choice, with an occasional watercolour and gouache thrown in; I look forward to exchanging thoughts with you about, eg, 'open' acrylics, as opposed to the normal variety; comparisons, insofar as they can be made, between oil and acrylic; what you think about acrylics being the base coat for oil paintings (my question there being, why cover them up with oil?  Speed of drying?  Pish....); and much else - because I would think the majority of contributors here specialize in oil or watercolour (could be wrong about that) and we don't get enough back-chat between acrylic painters - certainly not enough from those who love the medium, rather than using it as a convenience or substitute for others.   So - you have been warned, tee hee..... I don't take the Leisure Painter magazine, so haven't seen your articles there, unfortunately.
Hi Jackie, some superb work on your website. I have seen and enjoyed your articles in Leisure Painter, although my subject matter is quite different being predominantly a landscape/industrial painter in oils - and recently writing features for The Artist which is immensely enjoyable. I do also paint with acrylic, but generally prefer the slower drying time of oil paints, as well as all the smell and mess that tend to be associated with this medium. There aren't too many oil painters who contribute on this forum, I can think of a small handful only, Robert being one of those. Anyway, welcome back for a second time!

I don’t paint in acrylic or oils, but when a skilled artist has something to say it’s worth reading and listening. Often comments, advice and practical information can be used in other mediums. Looking forward to reading the comments in this link.
I have dipped my toe in the water with acrylic/acrylic ink but I have a long way to go. Looking forward to increasing my knowledge and practice.  I haven’t seen the Leisure Painter magazine yet as I have only just signed up.
Hi Jackie, I like using acrylics although started out with watercolours. I drifted into acrylics and loved the vibrancy of colours and also it’s adaptability for different ‘styles’ of painting. Have been reading your articles in Leisure Painter with great interest.
