I’ve been painting for many years in oils and acrylics but only jjust recently began using watercolours. By recent I mean a week ago. Somehow because of that I found this site.  First thing I read here was about whether anyone read a particular forum any longer. I’ve been through a few sites for different reasons but so many seem to end up talking about what they’re having for dinner, or what their dog’s doing. There seems to be a dwindling interest in general about the actual reason for the sites existence. I like discussing issues about art in theory or practice, so hopefully I’m in the right place.  Something that interests me about watercolours is the work of Colonial artists and the landscapes they made. I’m not sure what it is but there’s something appealing about the style of the work.  Anyway, I’ll put some work up soon and see what you think.
Look forward to seeing your art Brett. You will find great interest amongst very good artist here at POL. The forum is lively and about art, not dinners and dogs.😜
Welcome Brett , have a look at the inspiration threads they go back a long way . Over the next few months we will be looking at the  New Zealand artists as one of our members lives there and is going to feature them in the inspiration threads . Looking forward to seeing some of your artwork and you joining in the discussion, alway good to have new people joining in .
Welcome Brett, you’ll find plenty of active art topics on here, so please join in the conversation, or of course start a new topic! There’s a variety of members on here with a vast range of skills, from the comparative beginner to the more experienced… so please post your work on the gallery and if you are looking for critique or help, post your painting on here under the appropriate heading. Works for critique is an option. I paint in oils and watercolour, and also keep a daily sketchbook of pen and wash drawings, plus some in watercolour…sketching is the most important discipline in my opinion! Great to welcome a new member…
Welcome, Brett.  I have to  be honest: we DO sometimes talk about dogs (and cats ) but always in an art context.  We have yet to descend to talking about   our dinners, a la Facebook (though now I come to think of it, I did get a recipe for stew from one of our late members, Ruth Dolan...).  I think one big difference between us and, say, Wet Canvas is that we have far fewer, if any, instant experts who speak from the lofty viewpoint of a few weeks' experience, and give disastrous advice they've picked up from elsewhere on the internet.  We do know what  we're talking about, and if we don't - we make an effort to go and find out.
Welcome to the forum. Well, without dinner, without dogs, cats, perhaps a sweet dessert or a puddle of water, my "art" would be very poor. I hope to continue talking about my cats in this forum without fear of straying from "art"...
