Hi everyone. Nice to have found this forum. I've been looking for a community of painters, it seems difficult to find these places. I'm a comic/cartoon artist by profession, but I've been painting landscapes sporadically for many years as a hobby. Before a nerve injury last year I used to hike and explore a lot in the UK, so I found a lot of inspiration. But it wasn't until last November during recovery from an eye operation (2025 was a very bad year for me health wise lol) that I told myself I was going to make something of my landscape art, I was going to learn and improve and eventually sell. I'm still in the learning stage, and between my freelance art it's been slow going, but I'm determined. I was mainly a watercolour and ink user, but in the past year I've discovered my love for soft pastels, oil paints, gouache and acrylic paint. My wallet hates me for it. I hope to join in conversations and interact, though I do apologise if I disappear for times, my freelance work can get heavy, and I still have a backlog of work I had to pause during my recovery. I honestly wish there were more days in the week.
welcome
Welcome to the site Laura… I’m fully focused on oil painting and pen and ink/wash these days, trying to post something each day, although a tall order of course.  I’ve submitted almost a thousand posts on my gallery over the years, you’ll enjoy it here… I hope! I certainly have. I see you’ve posted a landscape, I’ll comment on it shortly - If you want critique you will need to ask for it! There are a few of us on here who are more than capable of offering constructive feedback/critique.
Echoing the welcome from others; I have been told off for not posting much lately - and for making excuses about computer problems: with some justice, because it's tech-nervousness that's really stopping me.  So they notice here, if you don't post - a supportive bunch, and Alan is right that we're always prepared to offer advice if you ask for it.... I think most of us try to avoid critique unless it's requested; so if you want it - ask.
I’ve gone to the gallery to make a comment, and it tells me that it isn’t there anymore! Has it been removed ?
Hi Laura first think welcome to the site , I watercolour , sketch , both are my favourite pastimes, I’ve recently started to use a dip pen and ink adding watercolour occasional. I have tried to open you post on the gallery but as Alan said it just not appearing for some reason. We are a supportive group in the main with of course the odd grumbling and cross words , the forum has lots to offer and the opportunity to share work in progress, something that is enjoyed by a lot of  people as I enables us to see how the artist works and plans the process of a painting. Also useful for getting feedback about a painting your working on and wanted some ideas about how to improve it. Looking forward to seeing your work and getting to chat with you about art in general , nice to see some of your professional art work as well .
Hello and welcome, Laura.
Similar problem to Alan's  - well; same one - I'm getting a Not Found message, although the image is still there, or was a few minutes ago.
Thank you all for the warm welcome, and thank you, I will indeed ask for critique when wanted. As for the gallery issue, I seem to be unable to view my own work, too. I came across this on another new member while I was having a nosey, I thought perhaps there was a period of time in which the user had to establish themselves on the site before a gallery was open, but I'm guessing there's an issue. I can delete and re-upload and see if that works.
Yes Laura, delete the complete post from your gallery, and start again. Shout up if you’re not sure how to delete it, it’s simple enough!
Done and done, I'm pretty savvy with forms and such, but I think this might be an internal issue. I do come across this message a few times on this forum:  'Not Found We're really sorry but it looks like we haven't finished painting that page yet' So I would guess it takes a while for new accounts to settle into the system?
No it doesn’t, it should be immediate. Let me speak to one of the staff in the morning… I’m a moderator and am in contact with them regularly - they usually sort things out quickly - I’ll come back to you as soon as I’ve heard something. Actually, I’ve just emailed them, watch this space.
