A quick hello, I'm a self-taught amateur with an average output of 1 painting every 5-6 years!  I've been enjoying the excellent paintings in the gallery, and I'm hoping that popping a couple of my own up there will give me the push to do more.
Welcome to the party, Maurice. Yes, do add some stuff to the gallery;; we always like to go look
Welcome Maurice, it has to be said that your current output could do with increasing somewhat! You’ll find plenty of encouragement on this forum if you’re stuck on anything, technical or otherwise.  Yes, do post some of your work on the gallery, if you want critique, that’s the place to ask for it. If you don’t already, I would recommend that you start reading the Leisure Painter magazine, the latest edition is out tomorrow in the shops, or better still, subscribe and get it delivered. It’s packed with inspirational ideas, projects to work from and so on.
Hi Maurice and welcome! There’s a great community here who will definitely encourage you! I am relatively new here having lost my Painting mojo A few years ago. My daughter bought me a subscription for Leisure Painter for Mother’s Day and now I am back painting and sketching! So I definitely agree with Alan’s suggestion.
How do, Maurice...  the only reason my Gallery on here has so much work in it is that I've been doing it for some 55 years; your rate of production, though, is even slower than mine - the last two years or so have been a bit barren, for various reasons, but I've found a good way of pushing up the output: buy yourself some expensive art materials - I've just bought paint, pens, conté crayons, boards, priming, cartridge paper, watercolour paper - and having made this investment, I couldn't live with myself, or the credit card, without making use of it........  it's worth a try, anyway.   I know some people regard buying art materials as sufficient an act of creation in itself (eg, I must be an artist, look at my huge brush collection...).
Hi all, thank you for the warm welcome - and also the great tips.  I'm wondering if the monthly challenges/contests etc. are the way to go for me. Without a deadline, however much I enjoy something, I'll always find something else to be doing.. On the subject of critique, I've put all my paintings up now so would really welcome some.  My technique is to grab a basic acrylic set, mix some colours until what I get what I'm looking for, slap it on, run out of that colour, then forget how I mixed it!
Welcome to the forum Maurice. It’s a good place to be the challenges are good to take part in and the daily sketches are good for practice. I too live in the Chilterns and spend time normally in the woodlands , great place for inspiration, and a lovely area to live.
Now then :) Welcome to the forum Maurice, hope you enjoy being on here and find it useful. Will have a quick lookie at your gallery when I finish typing! Anth
Welcome Maurice, just had a look at your gallery and commented on the one, but all are very good, and look forward to seeing more.
Thank you all for the kind comments, I've just started a new painting as it happens. Tessa, to answer your question on the gallery Tessa, I use acrylics simply because I'm far too impatient to wait for oil to dry. I have two brushes which I can only describe as a big one and a little one. I'll probably take Robert's advice above and splash out on some proper kit! :)
Just had a look at your paintings, they are really good.
You seem to be doing pretty well with the one big, one small Maurice! Easy to spend a fortune on brushes and all the other stuff out there, but wise to build up gradually I think and only buy what you really need.
