Brilliant and fun ! :-D :-D
It is brilliantly done. However, I do have strong reservations about using animals in this way. The sheep must have been scared at times during this production - as they are when the sheepdogs are herding them. The sheepdogs were having a great time, but they understand the work they have to do and love doing it. I am not a fan of sheep racing, pig racing or whatever. The men producing the work were clearly enjoying themselves. I would have liked to absolutely sure the sheep were. However brilliant it is, I personally feel that animals deserve our respect and using them for our own ends like this is not really respecting their natural behaviours. I know I sound like a right misery, but I love animals and can't bear to seem them abused or afraid.
WELSH ART
I'm with Thea it neatly demonstrates a contradiction in Terms
I've been sent that 4 times this week. What I can't understand is , if they are Welsh then why does it say FIN at the end? Believe me, those sheep were not worked so hard like that; there's some very clever video editing and computer work there.
Unless this is totally digital, with no actual live sheep involved, then it does involve a degree of ill treatment. If you were a sheep and didn't have the faintest clue what those big scary humans were doing to you - shoving light jackets on you and herding you about at high speed by probably over-excited sheep dogs - I think you would be feeling very stressed indeed. Everyone can see the point of using sheepdogs to move sheep calmly and safely about a farm, but using both dogs and sheep in this way for the amusement of the human population is abuse in my book.
Thea got a very strong point that I did miss at the time !
In sheepdog trials the competitors get more marks for handling the sheep calmly and not making them run about at speed in all different directions.- or panicking them. Moving sheep around the farm and for dipping and shearing is for the sheep's welfare and therefore valid. What is not valid is doing anything to them, or with them, that is clearly not for their welfare and is purely for the amusement of the human public. Sorry to bang on about this but I feel very strongly that we should stand up for animals right to a dignified life. They are at our mercy and we should take that responsibility seriously.
Thea, we all have our own views on animal welfare and nowhere in this clip did I see sheep being mistreated. I'm not sure what a sheep feels in the way of fear....maybe being herded by a sheepdog instills fear in a sheep....I don't know, I'm NOT a sheep. As far as I'm aware most sheep are kept for meat production/wool they are not kept penned up like a battery farm chicken. I did not put this clip on here to get into some kind of animal rights welfare argument, I found it amusing and from first reactions so did many others. I still find it amusing, if you don't then fine, we all live our own lives to our own beliefs.
