Winter sunlight and tricky greens

Winter sunlight and tricky greens

It's always hard to avoid using bright colours, but at this time of year before the sun really gets high in the sky, colours of the landscape are very muted.

Hazel Money - Bright Spring Day, Castleton

Here you see a half-finished painting I've been working on, really just looking more at early Spring/late Winter colour palette, there is so little intensity in the colours apart from the sky. If the sun vanishes everything goes very grey, trees a pastel brown, buildings in local stone vanish back into the landscape they came from.

I think you have a great picture in the making. I understand your comments about colours at this time of year. Yet, there is still beauty in their subtleness if it is not raining! Nevertheless, your painting looks ready to greet the Spring.
