wet watercolours

watercolours,

A Bit about me: Born in Shropshire, just caught the end part of the war and lived with Ration Books and Gas Masks. My formative years spent in the Country giving me a love of trees and fields and mostly accompanied our Dog a keen rabbiter. Married with one Daughter and two grandchildren. Left School to train as an engineer but after 11 months was unable to work in a factory due to developing Meniers disease (not life threatening but a Vertigo style condition and still with me but mostly under control) Needed to work outdoors so trained as a Carpenter/Joiner and eventually started a Building firm with a partner. Started messing around with oil paints for relaxation after long busy days at work. Eventually I decided to hang a few of my paintings in a local weekend Art gallery (Castle Ruins gallery) and by chance was visited by an agent of an American gallery owner. I was asked to paint old fashioned Horse & Hounds scenes with the ladies riding side saddle and all for the American market. I was supplied with all the canvases with an order for as many as I could paint (about 24" x 30 "). Painted about 15 before it all got like a sausage factory and I quit. Exhibited locally for a few years and then a top rated artist happened to visit an Exhibition I was holding at our local International College, he strongly suggested I switch to Watercolours with the extra challenge it presented. Very scary at first with a few terrible efforts but gradually I got more confident following plenty of practice. I now paint only watercolours and have no intention of reverting back to oils (no oil paints left in my possesion) My favourite and most successful style of painting is the "wet in less wet " sometims called "lost and found". The cost of framing meant I needed to sell well at every Exhibition and this situation led me to buying my own framing equipment. If we take into account the hours we spend on locating a landscape scene, painting it then framing it or getting it framed then we would be out of pocket, hence the need for professionals to produce Art Books and Video's etc.Framing my own saved the day for me. After taking early retirement I decided to sign in for my Adult Teaching certificate at my local College with a view to teaching Art in the evenings. Obtained what was required but then found out my chances of an evening teaching job could not be fulfilled because of a closed shop situation (retired teachers etc in place). Probably did me a favour as I have been demonstrating/workshops to many local Art groups ever since up to a 50 miloe radius..

Thanks Patsy, a glimpse of summer. It's -3 and the log fire is blazing, but just you wait! Let's hope we remember to return the favour.
