The Boss
This is a portrait of a Very bossy pup created as a gift for a friend. This was created in pastel using jacksons for the blocking, Derwent and Conte for the fine fur and Pitt for the eyes and sharp white detail. Its on Mi tents and is A4 in size
The most challenging thing I faced on this, was not the animal but the stairs and the gentleman wanted this carpet in. It detracts from the dog. I have never painted the butt nosed features of this breed before but I soon overcame it by treating it rather like fabric. Light at the top of the crease moulding to darks to the bases. The eyes were challenging and I made several trials of the eyes on alternative paper to try and capture them. I was struggling to adapt the shadows on he stairs and finally managed to create a portrait that held the energy of this challenging pup....
