Mort On Art makes me Smile!

David Morton White Art CV 2011 My experience is purely as an amateur artist developing the skills of painting and observation from visits to London Galleries and individual popular artists. My interest in art started at school with some degree of success and a recommendation to go to Art College. This was not followed, as I decided to go straight to work within the public sector. Art was always in the back of my mind as an activity not to be forgotten. Landscape and following the ‘Tour de France ‘and its scenery and characters was a dream. It still resides, and so may come true one day. It is only in the last four years that art has become part of life. I have been lucky enough to attend a good evening class for ‘Life Drawing /Painting at Sutton College of Art. Teacher and class are great with 50% regular students and friends. My first submissions are three paintings which are really my first completed works outside the classroom. There is one other at home which encompasses life drawing and horticulture. As a watercolour it comprises three lovely ladies dancing behind a fictional pampas bush with the contract of three Iris perennials in front. It is titled ‘Three Irises. Influences to me have been Picasso and Dali. Picasso for the shear variety and weight of works he created pushing the boundaries of colour and imagination to become compelling viewing. For me Dali has approached his subjects and been very daring. His influence on me has been not what his subjects were but how he painted them. His life drawing is something special. His approach by painting the figure and virtually dressing the body is a masterly approach. All this has all been assisted by my teacher, who tweaks my work and is very able at demonstrations to the class. What he has said has certainly got me out of awkward painting situations and enhanced the finished works. Finally, my current motive is just to find out what reaction my paintings cause to viewers. For me it is early days, but I do have dreams to continue, and if only my works make people smile, I will be happy. Comments to [email protected] David .M. White (Mort) April 2011
