LOVE (of art) IN A COLD CLIMATE III

Finally….. the place we stayed at had a roaring log fire in the lounge. Unfortunately, it wasn’t roaring one night, it was out. The owner came in and proceeded to remove the tons of newspaper that had been put on by one of the girls and added some sticks…and a match. The fire spluttered for a while then died…the owner came back and looked into the grate hoping that would make it spark back into life, unfortunately, it just sat there stubbornly smouldering. ‘My husband will light it for you’ Louise piped up, ‘he’s good a starting fires’ I quickly mumbled that I was not some sort of pyromaniac and that we had a log burner at home and so I had some fire lighting experience – a bit like Ray Mears, mind, he would probably have just used a flint and a bit of willow to get it going….
