Half way through summer
For most of us starting our career's late, or juggling work and being an artist, I think that we have to be thankful for the life that we have experienced as it colours our artwork to some degree, but it is not easy when you are in this position.
I started off in art college, but due to family difficulty, had to leave and start work. My career as an artist was delayed, but I think that despite delays, if something like this is in your spirit, then you will continue to try, until one day, opportunity is there to grab.
Breaking into successful practice can be a daunting task for anyone that has not been immersed in the artworld. That is why these pages and networks are so important for those of us who love to paint, but have not had the same opportunities as art grads. We can still make it happen in our lives.
I have taken my work to local galleries, only to be told that they love my work, want it in the gallery, but they would not tell me what commission rate they employed. How unprofessional is that!? I think that I must be a little too naive, so if there are artists out there with information about gallery representation, please share it. I would like to know, and am sure that there are more folk than me out there who are also hopeful...
So, smiles are free! Galleries will have to form a queue (har!), and I am busy painting my new series of boats from my latest photo journey.
Back soon
