A slight diversion from my painting and drawing was to make a cheap garden ornament to brighten up the days when there are no flowers! I mixed up a 3 to 1 sand and cement mix. The shape was easily fashioned and laid out on a piece of plastic on a flat surface. I used the top of a soft drinks bottle to impress the spots. I trimmed the bottle down and inserted a metall rod in the contained cement . . .a cardboard tube from a toilet roll could also be used. When all had dried it was painted with emulsion paint to seal it and later with acrylic to give it colour. To make it last longer a f inal coat of polyurethane varnish can be used .
